Here is my Orange Patriot.

I bought a Carrera Hellcat which was pretty much stock and kept adding better parts then along came a Orange Patriot frame with just a 5th element coil shock but the frame had the same length head tube and shock I2I as my Hellcat.

I bought it used, factory refurbished as just a frame. According to Orange it is an FR and was originally raw in colour. The previous owner said it had GBR decals but was looking a little rough so it went back to Orange for a service/re-Powdercoat in black with a white swing arm.

I built it up using the upgrades from my XC full suspension bike.

Since then I have kept changing parts as better ones turned up mostly using clearance stock and second hand parts.

Sorry mate, had to make it brighter for you so we knew what we was looking it lol.

Thats what I think is good about buying bikes from halfords. They are quite well specced for the price. When you feel time to upgrade, you can experiment with a new frame etc.

Lol, the only things that were stock from the Carrera was the crank set and BB
I'd completely upgraded that bike then I got a great deal on this frame :D so transferred all the upgrades over, now the Carrera is just a bare frame, just need to rebuild it.

Orange say 150mm max for my year of production :?

I do want longer travel on the front though, that probably means going 20mm through axle so a new wheel set or at least a hub and spoke change...

I just changed the swing arm to from 5" to 6" travel by using the lower holes and turning the shock round.

  • Not bad man, never really been a fan of the swingarm on the patriots, bit too big looking but the spec looks good.

Thanks. strangely those are the parts I'm looking at changing next after a white saddle unsure on bars and stem was looking at the Outland D31Eight bar, stem & grip set but in white if my steerer is long enough.

Fitted new Lyrik fork this time Solo air 170mm RC2
Changed to 26" Sun MTX33 32h snow camo rims on Hope Pro 2 hubs
Changed to Orange Friction Addiction grips
Changed to a bike hut 2 bolt seatpost after snapping the bolt on the Kalloy Uno post
Changed to a SDG F*Style snow camo saddle
Changed to FSA Afterburner MegaExo (24mm axle HTII compatible)
Changed to Fire Eye Grill pedals
Changed to Fox DHX 5.0 air shock
    Swapped rear Hope 6Ti 205mm with Mono M4 160mm
Added HK Starlight 1400 light and Magicshine Mj-818 rear

I would at some stage like a gravity dropper/KS i7 and I also want to make a Hope Patriot headset (like a Chris King with blue bottom cup, silver top cup, red bearing covers and top cap.)

A lot of the parts I've upgraded have either been fitted to a Dr Jekyll frame I bought or are back on my old Carrera Hellcat I'm rebuilding as a commute/XC bike.

Surely if you need that much travel for what you ride, racing ralphs will ultimately kill you?! :?

The tyres are temporary while I rebuild my XC bike as I'm using it to get to work until that's built.

I built a 24" rear wheel (MTX33 on 36h Hope XC laced 3 leading 3 trailing) for my Dr Jekyll build and decided to try it out.

    64 Patriot FR
    21ep6va.jpg

Seems to climb and accelerate easier, might just be in my mind though.

Need a left hand 24" ADS dropout for the Dr Jekyll.

Probably something else everyone on here is going to hate :P

...but its my bike and for a budget build I'm very happy with it.

It does need more aggressive tyres, got a spare Hope 6Ti brake for the back now. just need a 6Ti IS large mount or the two Hope 10mm blocks that look like lego 1x1 bricks for changing a small 6Ti mount to a large 6Ti mount.
