Advice on changing big ring for a bash ring.

Im am currently building a Niner RIP 9 and on reading the niner forum on mtbr there is an issue with chainsuck due to the big ring being so close to the chainstay, to try and avoid this I am looking at one of two options.

The crankset I have is a 2009 XT M770 22/32/44.

Option 1, I have read on there that swapping the large chainring to a 42T to increase the gap between the ring and chainstay, but on looking I cannot find one that will fit. TBH I dont know what I am looking for so if someone could point me in the direction of one that will fit it would be brill.

Option 2, I was looking at swapping the chainset for an SLX double but that's expense I could do without. To keet the spending to a minimum I would like to to change the middle ring from a 32 to a 36 and fit a bashring. Now, when it comes to bashrings is my thinking right? Looking at the E Thirteen rings online, would I need the 4 bolt in the 36T?

I am reluctant to loose the big ring because some of my local riding could involve a good 5 miles at the start or end of a loop.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

any 4 bolt 42T ring will fit.

    shimano do a 42T.

chain such is a result of worn or worn and new parts.

Look after it an it will not happen.

Its an issue that niner are looking into, its happening with new builds and components, the 44T ring sits 3mm away from the chainstay. I just want to strike while I can to avoid it.

I will do another search for the 42T Am I right on the 36T bashring size to replace the big ring?

the bash size is dependant in your "new" big ring

    3 mm aint that small.

X type BB? play witn the spacers. that will give you an extra 2,5mm but will push the chain line out a bit more. What is the chain line now?
what are your ratios like now? 44 big on a 29" does seem a bit big.
