Very good effort from Wales in Cardiff this afternoon. The welsh pounded the South African line right up to the last second. Much better style of rugby coming out of the WRU this year. Looking forward to the 6 nations!

hmm, trouble with being in Wales without Sky, is that finding the England game is impossible - now begins the impossible task of avoiding the result until tomorrow evening's highlights!

    Good Effort by Wales?

Yes, was a brilliant effort if Rugby matches lasted 40 minutes. Shame they forgot there was a 2nd half and threw it away.

I thought it was a pathetic way to lose after playing wel40 minutes and deservedly leading at half time. No one to blame but themselves for throwing it away in the 2nd half.

I was interested to see lots of the crowd came in fancy dress - dresseups empty seats. What a poor turnout for an autumn international. I was suprised it was not a full house

Just got in&i have'nt seen the welsh score.Sounds like they won by an awful lot of points?
  • ummm...no

and spen666...SA played very well in the second half to come back, we did well to come close at the end and we should have won really.

still too many silly errors but the first half was a dominating performance

  • i dunno what he said, after the whistle I switched over?

all i can say is the boks turned it up a notch for about 20mins in the second half, rest of the game they were below average.

maybe Steve Walsh (the ref) was being racist or something, he has a bad history in big games, but allowing the last charge of the first half wasnt fair. those three points could have turned the game at the end

    The attitude of losers.

Wales were well ahead at half time and threw it away.

As I said before a game is 80 minutes, not 40.

Wales desere no credit for losing a game they were winning easily

That's closer to what JD said, the memorable line was "Can Wales beat Fiji next week," JD's reply was "No!"

This game was 9th in the world against the 2nd best ranked team

'well ahead' is a tad of an overstatement...they were less than a converted try ahead..and losing williams didnt help. yes it was ours to lose, but the fight back in the final mins was inspiring and motivating. That was a never say die attitude

It's not a helpful Comment Airwave but it's sadly true - the best thing Clive Woodward did for England before the WC win was convince us that "drawing" or "playing well" was nt important - anything less than a win was outright failure...

Gatland has done well convincing the whole of Wales that beating England is not the same as winning the 6 nations but still has someway to go. As an English it pains me to say it but Wales should be winning far far more than they currently are!

You lost after being in a commanding position.

That is still a loss. No crdit is due for coming close at the end- you were in a dominant position but threw the game away and as for coming close at the end, you never got a single point back - not very close at all. Never looked like regaining the lead.

A truly spineless second half - all the more so after such a great first half performance. play like the 2nd half performance in the 6 nations and the wooden spoon beckons - even Italy would beat Wales again

Yes, the attitude of losers to try to claim some form of "moral" or other victory from a humilitating loss

The fightback? what fightback? SA just sat back and let you huff and puff without getting near to scoring. The fightback was no such thing. SA could easily relax, the game was over.

Wales from the 1st half might have scored. Wales in the 2nd half couldn't have scoredat the end if they played until now.

As was said by someone, it was a poor SA. They were there for the taking.

The only thing to take from the game is Wales were beaten and deserved to lose as they only played the 1st 40 mins

WRU are pricing the 'ordinary man' out of the stadium and wouldn't even release cutprice tickets on the morning of the game to local schools etc (as they have in the past).

The South African's had 16 men on the pitch when it mattered. Why is Walsh still refereeing?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Walsh_%28rugby_referee%29

    What a great resume.

Who knows whether his decisions affected the result, I do know that if he could tell the time at the end of the first half we'd have been in drop goal territory at the end.

Still, we (Wales) had our chances and didn't make the most of them.

I agree Benno, Walsh was shite, but we still should have been smart enough to hold on to a lead like that. When we were trying to put the pressure on in the late stages we were pretty good at going back & fore from touchline to touchline but no penetration through the middle. Frustrating.

Maybe Gavin Henson would have danced his way though :D

We could have done with Shane Williams playing the full 80 minutes, or should I say 82 minutes

Also why do they only issue tickets through rugby clubs?
Also how was there so many scouse ticket touths there selling doznes at inflated prices? Wonder which clubs provided them.
I offered one a fiver for a ticket and he said he would rather burn them!!!! I felt like smacking himand taking them, but did not fancy a stay overrnight in a cell

Alsp getting a bit fed up of the old charriot song :D especially giiving that it originated in UK in Cardiff docks with the migrant sailors who sang it in pubs, and I remember singing it well over 30 years ago in the clubs, not sure how it became the twickers brigade song, probably because the could not learn the words of antyhing more complicated :D

In the village in Berkshire I come from, there used to be a Roman Catholic public school called Douai Abbey (it's not there any more, they turned it into luxury flats - Cliff Richard owns one apparently) . Anyway, 'Swing Low' was the song their (fairly crap) rugby team and was sung for many years at their matches (no idea why). One day they all went to Twickenham to watch a match and started singing it. People around them joined in and it grew from there.

They don't anymore due to being unable to sell them all. The problem is we now end up with people who turn up for the 'event' and who don't regularly follow rugby hence the increase in booing opposition kicks or poncing around in fancy dress trying to get on TV. I don't usually get nostalgic but international days at the old National Stadium were far better, the lower capacity meant it was a real treat to just get a ticket and being in a crush on the terrace was far better than sitting in plastic seats surrounded by idiots who just want to drink beer, boo the opposition and abuse the ref. Ticket prices are ridiculous (£70 for my seat at the Aussie game but fortunately I didn't pay) considering there are 4 matches in 4 weeks and playing the Southern Hemisphere teams is no longer a novelty.

On the SA game, we looked far better than against Oz but we should have been out of sight by half time. The Boks were never going to play that badly for a second half. OK, both SA tries were dubious but I couldn't believe we weren't called back for crossing on our first try. There were reasons to be encouraged but we still have a long way to go and I can't see anything other than a sizeable beating by the All Blacks next weekend. It's no good winning the occassional Grand Slam or 6 Nations title any longer, we need to be beating the SH teams regularly and being in with a shout at World Cups but the whole structure of rugby in Wales with the crappy regions is wrong IMHO.
  • I am not looking forward the savaging we are going to get at the hands of the ABs. I'm afraid the first half the Boks were dire, Romania would have scored at least once against opposition that half ar**d. The second half was no surprise at all, though of course from a Welsh perspective very disappointing, after all a win is a win. It seems to we that we are stuck between not having a consistently competitive 'traditional' front 5 or an Aussie style rugby league pack. It's the 2nd and back rows where we fail to compete consistently, and worryingly Mike Phillips has started running sideways instead of forwards.
