Deep Rim Safety

Hi guys,

Picked up a bike with Mavic Carbone SLR wheels. This is my first experience with deep rims and an one of the first rides out the front wheel got shunted out by a sudden cross wind. Fortunately I was able to regain control of the bike but it was a bit unnerving!

Is this is a common problem with deep rims? Any advice on living with them?

Thanks, in advance.

Mark

Yes, don't ride them when expecting blustery conditions - a strong side wind can force you to move unexpectantly a couple of feet off line.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • It can happen. Now that you know about it it'll be easier.

  • Sounds so obvious but deep rims are going to suffer from the wind more that less deep rims, if an option and you know its going to be windy and you have the option you might want to change them over. However now you know what it feels like you should find it less stressful when riding.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
