Basic bike maintenance

Recently got a new Candondale Bad Boy with disc brakes.
What is the basic maintenance I should do (not looking all every expert tip there is), particularly after use in the wet.
I have some chain lube as well as some GT85.
I know the chain will need lubing every so often. But after use in the wet, is it suitable to give a quick spray with GT85 to prevent any rust.
And where should/shouldn't this be sprayed.

Hi, i have just paid for (still waiting delivery from play.com) Zinn & the art of mountain bike maintennace. I am reliably informed this is the only book you will ever need. Good for absolute beginners or the more experienced.
Good luck0 -
In point of fact Zinn does two books - one for Mountain Bike Maintenance and one for Road Bike Maintenance. Both a excellent and very readable. Pick the one that is right for your needs. Park's Blue Book is another bike maintenance bible, although not as informally readable as Zinn.
There is also plenty of good info available on websites as well - Sheldon Brown is famously good.0 -

If it's manky hose it down while it's wet, saves the crap welding on then you can properly wash it later.. I usually use a brush and waterbased degreaser called surfex hd. Works well just be sure to lube everything back up when your done0

I'd be very wary of spraying GT85 anywhere near your brake discs....including the chain.0
