My DHBs have been fine - I thought the fit and warmth were bang on for me ? Not bothered with the assos longs after I wasn't too impressed with my £80 assos shorts...

I had a similar opinion of Assos stuff after trying their legwarmers a couple of years back - the armwarmers were nothing to write home about either. I'd only get more Assos stuff to try if it was on a trial basis or on 'very special offer'.

Some people will swear by Assos and others will swear at them. ,Which is pretty much the par for a lot of cycling stuff - its personal.

The Shutt biblongs I had seemed decent until I stuck a hole in them. Didn't have them too long though, either a dodgy saddle or seatbag ripped them - 'my fault'.

The Assos bib tights are expensive for a reason - because they're brilliant! You get what you pay for.

You can choose from the latest ones with the S5 pad or the older ones with the S2 pad which is my preference. The Airprotecs come with extra knee insulation. I absolutely love mine.

Giant man I seem to stalk you on Assos threads(no pun intended) but I have to agree. The Airprotec are great and warm enough for the coldest of days.

As an alternative, to the 851 tights. Endura http://www.primera-sports.com/products/bib-156/endura-windtex-clip-biblongs-c-w-insert-3159.aspx

Half the price of Assos but not half the performance.

My old winter bibs have finally given so I am in the market for a new pair.

Il be riding throughout winter including several weeks in yorkshire/peak district so im thinking of windproof front panelling and some hefty insulation on the knees. The assos ll winter bibs look good but are very expensive so I wondered if anybody had a cheaper recommendation?

    Cheers

I usually swear by the gore stuff as its generally ok priced and well made.

however, the best winter bibs i have found, if, like me you suffer at all if your knees/legs get cold are the Pearl Izumi Am Fib bibtights- full windproof/showerprof fronts and around lower back. Probably a bit warm for some folk but they are bargain at about £80, unpadded. I used these all last winter for commuting in the peak

Dear god - red longs are a crime against humanity. Saw a guy out in them last weekend. Teamed with a rather fetching royal blue top. Neither of which matched his bike. I suppose he could have been going for the superhero look I guess.

i bought a pair of Assos bibs last winter - they are the slightly older design with 851 windstop material in key areas. I couldn't believe how well they kept out the cold. I have since bought the S5 padded bibs but haven't yet tried them out - visually I'm not entirely convinced by them & prefer the look of the older ones.

  • A vote for the Gore here,

But one note, the Windstopper type (Xenon) are for really cold days <5C - anything above this and I get a bit hot and I then use normal bibs with leg warmers!

Nice tight fit on the bike - They feel snug and warm and as stated the Windstopper fabric is semi waterproof as well as being windproof.

Had mine for two years and have no wear issues.

Well, wore the new DHB Roubaix today, super warm from the knee down but had cold upper thigh and Nads.
It did rain and had no resistance to that at all and they come up a tad small.

Just bought the DHB Roubaix, quite a snug fit but not rode in them yet

I bought these as well a few weeks ago for my full attack on the British winter. Fit is great plenty warm enough for me (even in -3c) and the pad is great. Did the Tour of the Peak in them and the comfort wasn't an issue.

I was thinking of buying some winter bibs from my fav place aka Shutt (no I still don't work for them) Their Roubiax bibs look great for £59 as the come up quite high to keep you warm, it does not look like they are padded so will still need shorts over/under them. http://www.shuttvr.com/shop/productdeta ... _BibTights
I do have a pair of their 3/4 coolmax knicks which I love and have found them warm enough up until now but it is getting dam cold so I may have to ask Santa to visit Shutt for me.

I'm also looking to get a pair of Shutt Bib Tights as I'm a fan of their bib shorts. Has anyone here actually got a pair? What are they like? They look like a bargain.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Agree they do look like a bargain, just remember, I don't think they are padded. Plus if you join their club room (for free) you get extra discount of anything you buy.
