Morning all,

Having been on here for a while now, and having just read through a number of posts, it occured to me that there's only one thing that I don't like about this forum.

It's the polarised views of the anti-motorist brigade.

I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but really......................
Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved

Maybe it's because these comments mainly come after a forum member has been knocked off their bike by some moron in a car.
  • If it's any consolation, there are also lots of reasons to be anti-motorist when you're driving.

Though to be fair, it's not motorists as such, it's what I think of as plugs that cause the most problems.

To drive like a plug means to drive as inconsiderately and as piggishly as possible to plug up the next bit of bottleneck up ahead - because bottlenecks need plugs to work properly.

Plugs will pull out in front of you on roundabouts simply because of the need to fill up those few yards of road in front of them, even if their exit is blocked by other vehicles, with no consideration for cyclists because bikes are more like escaping bubbles than plugs - and a plug's mission is to prevent bubbles escaping.

A plug will instinctively have to overtake a cyclist travelling at the speed limit (in my case, this is almost exclusively when travelling downhill) simply because it's their unique mission to get first to the traffic queue up ahead.

Plugs are so used to plugging up bottlenecks that they've developed the habit of texting other plugs once they've successfully done their bit of blockery. This is about the only identifiable social aspect of plugs.

An extensive list of pluggery would be far too long to list here...
  • There's some of us that try to take a balanced view and there are plenty of 'I'm a driver too' look at JeremyR's recent post where he was abusing a patient 4x4 driver and got nowt out of it. Andy Manc's anti car polemics were regularly shouted down. But at the end of the day, this is a cycling forum, what do you expect.
