Garmin Edge 500 software update - a rant.

I use an iMac and have the Garmin Training Centre software installed on it, to log the data from the Edge 500 after each rides. Recently, the background auto update process decided there was a new version, and downloaded it to my desktop. When I launched the application, I got a pop-up box asking if I wanted to "install" it.

I clicked the install button. It did something, because now when the program loads it is different in terms of the way it's laid out, although essentially the same really. It did ask if I wanted to import my ride history. Yes please. Duh. Oh, and yes, the user profile data contained on the Edge unit is correct, because that's how I configured it. The default data you downloaded with the "new" version is NOT correct.

BUT, every time I launch the program, it still asks if I want to install the new version. I ALREADY DID YOU MORON.

Previously, Garmin also sent out a firmware update for the Edge unit, which promptly deleted my personal set-up data and replaced it all with the factory defaults for height, weight, age etc. I re-entered it, cursing the twat that wrote that little "upgrade".

Does anyone know if Garmin have a Sheltered Workshop for software developers? Are they all total f**king morons?? Why is it so difficult to actually TEST your software "improvements" before sending them out to customers????

IME most Garmin updates don't reset your user data, but occasionally one will. User data should be in Garmin Connect anyway so you can just resend it to your device. Takes about 20 seconds
    More problems but still living....

Not when the first time you turn the unit on after the upgrade is when you are a long way from your home PC.

It should NOT be designed like that. I work in software implementation, and if I put in a change to a client system which promptly deleted their core master data, I would not just be fired, I would be sued.
