Aviemore four wheeled hire bikes from the 70s - a few pics

Just found a few old pics of the bikes the tourists used to hire to pedal around the Aviemore centre in the 70s. Always wanted to try them as a kid but could never quite convince my parents :-( They look a bit on the heavy side. Tiller steering and rear drum brakes I think. I like the seat up front for the kids.

In the 80's they replaced them with Sinclair C5s, although I never saw any myself - would love to have tried one. I think MacDonalds tried a Swiss ZEM four seater four a while five years ago but I only saw it once.

It'd be great if there was something like this available again. Ah, the old days....... Even the tourists were more scantily clad :-)

feck they are brave, even in Summer you need to at least wear socks with your swimwear in Aviemore.

I was thinking something similar. These must have been PR images - I just cannot see anyone going out dressed like that in Aviemore.

It was the 70s :-)

Aviemore can be both the coldest and warmest place in the UK. I've seen -27C in winter and +31C in summer. As we're inland and high up we don't get any coastal har to lower the summer temperatures. And no coastal breezes to remove still, icy air that falls down from the hills and settles in the valley.
