LED Lenser P7 headlight - great torch... any good for bikes?

I've just been given this torch and I'm investigating using it for commuting and night-riding in the woods. Has anyone any experience with it who can provide feedback? I'm concerned that the makers describe it as having a "splash proof housing". In downpours will my light be safe? Cheers... Dan.

  • I'm also considering buying this torch for night rides/commuting. Is the head strap large enough to go around a helmet?

You need jeremyrundle as he recommends the P7 Lensers on several What Lights threads. I know that the DX P7s and XPGs have o-rings and seem rain resistant, though I have never tried mine in a serious downpour.

  • I got the p7 and done a few rides on it round Cannock, it is perfectly good for the job.

It has got wet a few times with no issues.

I have it on the bars. It is quite a wide beam so more suitable for bars, and quite heavy to put on a helmet.
  • Thanks Bartimaeus. I have just realised that the original post was regarding the P7 and I was talking about the H7 which is the one that comes with a head strap. I wondered if the headstrap would fit around a cycling helmet?

    So, two questions:-

Has anyone tried using a LED Lenser H7 with a helmet?

Has anyone fastened a LED Lenser P7 to a helmet? I guess you could sit it in one of the gaps on your helmet and fasten it with a cable tie or velcro strap?
  • I did a ride with two P7's the other night and i didnt find them any good.

Would be better mounted to a helmet im guessing i had two on my bars, wouldnt reccomend.
  • benrayner100, for a bar mounted light I would highly recommend the Hope Vision 1.

You should try an 18650 powered P7... I know they are nowhere near the claimed 900 lumens, but I reckon they must be in the 400-500 range, and are nice and bright with a good flood.

LED Lenser make good lights, the problem is they take so long sorting there products the technology is out of date by the time they release it.

I have a copper mate who has a Lenser P7 handheld and thought it was good till he borrowed a MTE SSC P7-C and XPg R5 lights off me and went home and bought some from china the next day!

RE Helmet mounting, i havent mounted that exact light, but also have a tikka XP a Silva L1 and a Magicchine wth headstrap, i find back to back velcro really useful for securing headtorch straps onto helmets, even if it seems to fit, its good as it stops it bouncing around and holds it in the right place.

    Bartimeaus:

500-600 come on give them some credit, L and M say 518 Lumens for a MS, i have never seen a test (integrating sphere) where a SSC P7 has got less than 500 Lumens!

I frequent MTBR forum and CPF daily!
