Dalby Red Run

I'm a fairly fit guy in the prime of life (45!) I started this mountain biking malarkey last year and upgraded my bike six months ago to an excellent Trek Fuel Ex8. I try to get out once a fortnight, my local trail centre being Dalby. I decided to set myself some goals to see how my riding improves eg clearing/completing sections. Did a major (for me!) one at the weekend as I completed the full red run with no stops, no offs and just a few dabs. Only trouble is I dont really know what time I should be aiming for as I often ride alone so dont know what the red can be completed in. It took me exactly two and a half hours, what should I be aiming for? I can then set my next goal! Cheers

2 and half hours is a good time for the full red route,i go out riding with a young whipper snapper, who ride xc races and he can do it in under 2 hours.
id say carry on setting youre own goals rather then trying to beat other people's times, for instance, try getting round 5 mins quicker then youre last time, try getting up a climb in a higher gear rather then the granny ring, try improving on average speed around dalby(if you have a speedo that shows this) etc0 -
Thats a good time i did a 2hrs 24mins a couple of weeks ago but i did ride there from malton first then back again, done a 2hrs 19 in the summer doing the same thing .
So if you ever see a fully geared mountain biker riding along the pickering road on a Trek give us a beep because its most likely me :P0 -
birchy>was you out a few weeks ago when there was shooters out in the field from thornton-le-dale to the turn off for dalby by any chance?0
-
I was out a few weeks ago yea, but i take the that right turn at the bottom of the hill just on the edge of thornton le dale to ellurburn church and ride to low dalby that way flowing the stream as it saves riding up the hill so i dont know if there was any shooters in the fields.
i will have been on either a silver ex9 or a red white and black top fuel 9 if that narrows me down0 -
it wasnt you who i saw then,as whoever it was had rode up the hill, might keep in mind that route you do tho,it will save on the car park charges during the summer,lol0

Get out of Dulby, forget about times and ride some real trails0 -
Oh jesus. 4 and a half hours last time I did the full route. 4 months ago and very sure I can easily beat that now with better fitness levels. Well I need to because i've entered my first enduro event next March!0

Hey sandybean, I'm sure you will be fine. How do you go about entering an enduro? I like a bit of compo, would I be wasting my and other people's time, or do they tend to be not that serious?
Thanks for the advice ibbo- if I lived on the edge of the peak district I would love to do just that, its a tad flat around York!
Would love to do Ladybower and other proper trails but Dalby has been a great place to start.
Birchy, I will look out for you and definatelly give you a toot! Top riding0 -
silvershredder>you have the north york moors on youre doorstep mate, some great riding to be had around there,or even the dales about a hour and half away from you, much better then riding a trail centre, have a look at the pics i posted yesterday,on hull and yorkshire area, under MTB Rides.....we are doing a ride in moors next saturday starting at cockayne(north of helmsley).0
