Chapeau if you rode your bike to work today

Must admit I WFH today as a 15 mile commute in the rain with a gale force wind didn't seem like an attractive option. If you rode your bike to work today Chapeau. If I still worked in London I may have had a quick blast from Paddington to London Bridge but the thought of riding for nearly an hour in todays weather was a no-go.

If you rode today and have a decent commute let us all know so that we can all raise our caps to you.

Expect the usual responses that I should MTFU :D

Blowing a gale in Cardiff too. I'll be heading home in half an hour or so, under 4 miles but I have a feeling it'll be a headwind from hell.

Still, getting home to a nice bottle of ale and some lovely grub cooked by Mrs Benno will spur me on.

51 commute miles today - out and back across North Leeds. Wasn't too bad really but I did leave early for a bit of daylight. Not sure what routes to take tomorrow but 35 miles is the minimum target. Glad to be on a sturdy steel bike though - I think I'd have got blown about more on the carbon bikes.

It was a bit pants today, apart from a 2 minute stretch travelling the same speed as the wind when everything goes calm and quiet.

Tired from 2 hours overtime, puncture, still wet clothes from this morning and the whole commute into a wind so strong i was in hill climbing gear in places on the flat .......

And it still beats the metal box mode of transport :D

15 miles each way for me, first half akin to the dwarf being shot out of the circus cannon  followed by a proper beasting. Sometimes I think I should take the more direct 10 mile route on days like these, but it hardly seems worth getting wet for .....

9 miles of strong wind and rite fine mist blowing into me, along with roads full of nice slippy wet leaves, but the bit that bugs me most is getting the shoes dried out ready for tomorrow morning!

this morning was steady headwinds. tonight was strong gusty winds which made the ride very unpredictable :(. how come I never benefit from a tailwind :x

felt good though once I got home :)

Hat off to the roadie on atherleigh way this morning turning towards pennington flash. That wind was bad, luckily i was sat in a car. Although I noticed your back light isnt very visable as its a bit low and that high viz vest tied round your rucksack was very flappy, think of the drag its causing fella!

  • Didn't cycle in yesterday as it was really crappy, but did do the 15 miles by motorbike (and felt like I'd wimped out when I arrived at the office, and gave myself a very stern telling off!). Cycled in today and it wasn't too bad. A bit blustery and sidewindy, but not too much of a headwind. I've just put a new set of Fulcrum 7's on my Allez and don't know whether it was a tailwind or the new hoops making it seem like I was flying in this morning! If it was a tailwind then I'm certainly gonna feel it on the way home...

  • Well I MTFU'd and rode into work today - nowhere near as bad as it was yesterday though - I actually quite enjoyed it. It was the classic case of looking much worse than it was and once I'd covered the first few miles got into the ride.

RAIN, COLD OR WINDY - pick any 2 of the 3. When it is all 3 is when it's tough.

34 mile round trip yesterday. 1 hour going in and 1hr30 coming home; my god my lags are tired after this week but I jsut think of it as resistance training and it's more fun than going to the gym.

I was late for work 3/4 of the days I rode in this week because I hand't allowed time for the headwind which seemed to rotate 180 for the ride home. I missed Weds cos my father in law went to hospital, It was the only dry day. Had horizontal frozen rain pelting my face on two days.

So ++ for anyone who stuck it out for the whole week
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Ohhh.. man I had a moment where everything was just sooo calm - for a few 100 meters. I sped up too, so must have been getting the tailwind just right.

I think I recall some hailstone during this week... man - talk about Friday though? I actually got blown off a path onto the grass at one point.
  • Eh. My commute is small enough that I can walk when conditions prohibit cycling, so wind and rain, doesn't get the opportunity to phase me except when I'm forced to walk. My bike is the easy option.
