As usual, rode in the New Forest last night which was a tad chilly (-1 at times!) but SUCH a great ride! Everything was starting to ice over which looked amazing but did cause a few problems as our gears were freezing by the end of the ride - not so bad for me (stuck in middle ring), but not so great for one guy stuck in granny ring
Brakes were also freezing up, and some nice icy lumps in everyones camelbacks too
Definitely needed a hot bath afterwards to thaw out (and a curry in the pub actually... ), but I am definitely sold on winter night riding again!!

One of the guys from the local club had an off on Tuesday night coming down a VERY steep bit in slick mud. Broke his collarbone and 3 ribs.
Picked his bike up and pushed the 3 miles back to the carpark without complaining once. Everyone thought he was just a little sore until he rang from the hospital.
What a legend!0 -
I can picture gears freezing/clogging up with all that mud getting into it all. The cold thickens things up.
Good call going out last night, I imagaine it would have been good, I was thinking the same thing. Many happy trails!0 -

It was great!
And at the risk of sounding VERY girlie, it was really pretty....! The effect of all the bike lights and the frost made all the heather twinkly :oops:Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

I hope you had winter shoes!
Rode a few weeks ago with my only pair of spd shoes, and about 20km in I couldn't feel my feet anymore, and it was becoming hard to turn the pedals.
That was hell.0 -

Sadly not... White (yes, white  ) spd's and wool socks - I forgot my overshoes! Needless to say my feet were FREEZING! And I managed to catch my leg on a bramble or something so my shoes are decorated with blood as well and mud now. It's a good lookLife is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

Over the shoes i reccomend good water proof wintersocks.
Find they work best to keep the feet warm and dry no matter what.
And how are you finding that little orange of yours now?0 -
Sigh, if only I could night ride in my local woods, unfortunately the night just brings out all the male doggers, not good rounding a corner and seeing two or more blokes at it. :roll:Don't think, BE:0

Yeah, need to get some good waterproof socks (take note Father Christmas )!
Getting to grips with the Orange thanks, in fact the last two rides have been awesome! Rode some descents yesterday that I wouldn't usually go down, namely because I was being lazy following my friend Tom as opposed to picking my own more sensible line!
I do love the bike though - it always gets comments, even if they're along the lines of "I didn't know they made bikes that small...!"Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
