This was my very first proper MTB bought brand new10+ years ago.
I'ts been everywhere with me and well looked after.
The only thing original now is the frame and seatpost clamp and I've recently converted it to a singlespeed for my flat commute.
I can't seem to part with this bike.

The next 2 pics are a before and after of my first build.
I'ts an old Peugeot elite with carbolite frame that I picked up on Gumtree for £15.00.
It had a bike rack on it which I sold on ebay for £9.00 and then I spent approx another
£100 doing it up.
It weighs 10.2 kg and I based the build on a Charge Plug.

Don't think I'll part with this one either.

  • Wow, good effort!

Can see the Charge Plug influence...... How does it ride, like a charge plug?

  • Hi Wilko193,
    Thanks for your nice comments.
The Peugeot weighs 10.2 kg .
I've no experience of road bikes so don,t know if this is heavy or not but it feels very light to me and goes like stink.
I'm 51 but I still have a wee bit of kick left in the old legs.
I managed to keep up with 2 roadie guys with really expensive bikes one day in the summer and when we stopped at the lights they said what the f**k is that thing.
We ended up chatting for about half an hour and they both took the peugeot for a wee spin and loved it.
  • Ah awesome - no worries for the comments, always love talking bikes! But yeah I was rather impressed with the transformation

10.2kg is not bad, certainly not super heavy.

I can't see from the photo, is it fixed wheel or free wheel?

    It's only singlespeed.
I've never tried fixed wheel but would like to.
Don't know if I have the courage now to go fixed
It was 42T at front and 17T rear.
After a wee while I found that to be a bit spinney.
It's 42 15 now and it feels perfect for me
  • Ah ok

Fixed wheel is great, I ride a 20 mile round trip 5 days a week on a fixed gear and I love it..... You get used to it pretty quickly, sure theres the odd wobble where you forget it's fixed, but your body does get used to it very fast. And the fitness gains are big :)

But free wheel is SO much nicer on the hills
