Running too long forks?

Well, a guy on MTBE is trying to sell a Genesis Core which I know for a fact is designed for a maximum of 130mm forks. He's put on some Fox 140mm forks and says that the handling is fine but wouldn't it invalidate the warranty on the frame if the headtube ripped off? He says he runs them at 30% sag but would that still potentially damage the frame and invalidate the warranty and also wouldn't it be a pig to climb even if you did lock the out.?

It's only 10mm. Most bikes can handle +20mm of travel over what it was originally designed for without the handling being really adversely effected, or the climbing abilities be messed up.
No idea about warranty though.0 -
1cm. I wouldnt stress over 1cm.0

get a 10mm spacer and reduce them to 130mm if you're worried0

they're not mine I'm just wondering, even when running lots of sag, would teh warranty still be valid if the frame snapped.0

Perhaps a better question is:
Is the warranty transferable to a new owner (I doubt it, but could be wrong)?
Either way, I doubt it'll actually kill it. I'm using 120mm on a frame for 100mm and it's ace0 -

I know my frame can take forks 20mm either way.0

if the question is is the frame warranted for some Fox 140mm travel forks your best bet is to ask Genesis.
if the bike was provided with that fork then yes it will be. But this does not mean that it is warranted for all 140mm forks as what is more important is the axle to crown length.
running more sag does nothing to reduce the length of the lever.."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

finally Nick arrives and adds some sense, the people who know what the bike is good at work at Genesis, so ask them not us.
My bike is designed for a single crown 140mm fork, I phoned the bike company, I now have an 8" dual crown fork and know it is safe. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0
