just received my multi room card for sky but when i tried to activate it, the gadger on the phone told me i needed the box to be connected to a phoneline permanently for 12 months.

has anyone else got multi room, is your box connected to a phoneline?

will i get away with actvating the phone line by connecting my old sky box to the phone line which is downstairs then removing it and using the box upstairs ( :shock: ) will sky know im not connected to the phone for all of the time i am using it?

It needs to be connected to a phone line so they can update the software in the middle of the night when everybody's fast asleep. If the update doesn't go through they send you a snotty letter.

I don't know what happens if you ignore it.

jut done some web related research and it appears that the reason for the phoneline thing is to ensure you keep the second box in the house where you live instead of giving the box to someone else or having sky in another place as a way of circumventing the necessity for 2 subscriptions.

looks like i will need to go and get a phone line extension cord.

Mines never been connected to the phone line apart from the activation (borrowed next doors)

It was a couple of years ago mind, but otherwise they'd have chrged £25 to do it via satilite.

Updates do/can come via satellite as remote iPhone app records and it's not plugged in to the phone.

Mine was hooked up last year, then disconnected as soon as the engineer left, and never plugged in again. And i've not been wheelbarrowraped....yet.

+1 they normally give you 3 months to get a phone line. the only thing different I've noticed is your card won't reset it's limit once you've watched a certain amount of box office movies and some interactive services won't work, you can phone sky and have them reset your card though.

Mmm, now I'm wondering if I have to change anything because when we got multi-room, we got a Sky+ box at the same time, that went downstairs and the old box went upstairs. No activation required, but no phone line has been attached to it since it moved upstairs.

I don't have a phone line attached to the kids sky + box :? The engineer said it didn't matter?
