Buying the Garmin Edge 800 in the US

Am in the market for an Edge 800 but am trying to save some pennies.
My friend has offered to pick me one up in New York when he flies out in a couple of weeks. With a favourable exchange rate, there are savings to be had but are there any other issues we need to think of.
Two things spring to mind, the base maps will be US but with the UK maps installed presumably this wont be a problem?
Obviously, different power supplies would be negated by using an adaptor?
Is there anything else we need to think about?

any map issues can be resolved without too many issues.
as the poster above says the biggie is lack of warranty. should something go wrong you'll have a nightmare to get anything done under warranty.0 -
Also a chance he will get stung coming through customs with a shiny new 800 in unopened retail packaging.

So I guess any saving could be potentially wiped out on the way through customs, making it a bit of a no-brainer to buy it here then. Cheers guys, will order it from wiggle now me thinks.0

I really wouldn't be concerned about this. Every time I go to America I come back with stacks of stuff. I think customs are more concerned with other thingsTri Coaching

Agreed, been to the states for a few bargains myself, difference is it was me that was due for the duty if I got stopped (very unlikely). Its different when you are asking a friend

Don't order it from Wiggle, save £50 and get it at
http://www.handtec.co.uk
Reliable and cheap, the full package 500 is £55 cheaper than Wiggle also.0 -
With my platinum discount, the wiggle price is the same as handtec, and they've got the garmin in stock!0
