Shifter Grease?

Hi,
I have Deore Mega rapidfire shifters, and they were sluggish and not shifting easily. I took off the bottom caps and sprayed some degreaser in them and wiped off the old grease. They are working great now, but I'm unsure what type of lubricant to use in them. There was some white grease in them that I cleaned out. The guy at my LBS said chain lube would be fine, but that seems too thin to me.
I have some Finish Line chain lube and some Park Toll Polylube 1000. Should I use one of them, or get something else.
Thanks!

more likely to be mucky cables.
clean and lube with GT85 etc and keep it of the brakes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

white grease is normally lithium grease, but any grease/oil is fine.
