Is it possible to fit cyclocross tyres to a road bike just for added stability when cycling in the wet or across a path

  • Probably not, not enough clearance, 25mm should be good enough though.
  • No, pointless

Fit Conti 4 Seasons 700c x 23 and take it steady on paths.

Cyclocross tyres are designed to give grip on muddy or loose surfaces - like MTB tyres they often provide poor grip on the road. The other misnomer is that tread on tyres improves grip or help remove water whereas it has been proven to offer very little benefit on tarmac - the pressure of the tyre on the road simply displaces the water. If you want improved grip, run the widest tyres you can fit and inflate to lower pressures e.g. 5-6 bars. If you want poor grip, fit skinny tyres and pump them up hard.
