Why didn't someone tell me this when i started.
I borrowed a road bike, it felt odd, rode it to work a few times
bought a hybrid road bike, rode it every day for a year and a half
bought a carbon synapse, rode it, i had a paint crack, got a super six replacement
new road bike is far too nice to ride in wet / poor weather
hybrid feels heavier now, ok for trips out with the kids etc
NOW: I need like some sort of daily road bike. Been looking at Ti Lynskey Road Geometry, but Planet X do a Lynskey Road frame for £799.
Seems the perfect light, good feel, everyday bike to me. Anyone? (I'd be happy with Crud Road Racers rather than buying a tourer type of frame Geom therefore sacrificing the better shape.
In reality, I'm building up my old 531 Claud Butler Tourer (that i rode around europe a bit at age 15) for the moment to see if i can make that work as a winter frame.

There was a great brown cyclo-x style machine that I had my eye on that got a great write up not too long ago. It would make and awesome commuting/training machine IMO. I shall re-edit if I find it for you.

I can't help with your specific question, but of course you need another bike - the correct number of bikes to own is always one more than the number you currently have.0

I'm in the same boat Geordie fella. Looking for a road bike that is above all fun, but tough and I can batter in the winter weather.
I was looking at this -> http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/product.php?id=39. Also vaguely tempted to go single speed so i don't need to worry about the constant cassette wear....
What do you reckon to the Kinesis?0 -
yeah, i looked at the tripster a while ago, friend has one. heavy though, after my supersix experience i'm trying to get away from that tourer heavier feel. they have racelight, but they're aluminium which is the same as my hybrid. i don't just need light weight, i need a soft feel too, which leads to steel or aluminium.
on further invesetigation, the Planet X £799 frame are probably straight tubing like the Lynskey Cooper, 'value' version. Still seems good as the double or triple buted Ti frame costs £1499. Sheesh.
I'd go with a CX sure, but am really drawn to a Ti frame. Maybe some Campag Athena or Simano 105 otherwise.
If i didn't go for Ti, I'd definately get steel. Like a condor, but for that price you can get the single tubed planet x Ti Road frame (or sportive frame) for £799. Incredible really.
Super bad weather / long term use is admittedly easier with a single cog, which denotes Rohloff, Day One Alfine or a Single Speed (Road or Cross).
Man, if i had a shop, i'd stock one of everything i'd want to buy myself, there are at least 5-6 categories of bikes that people would want in a stable.
Yes, a livery for bikes. wait till i tell my wife, she'll be ever so pleased about the idea.Cannondale BadBoy Rohloff

I was in a similar position and wanted a steel frame but ended up with the Ribble Gran Fondo as a cheaper alternative! Somehow a Carbon winter bike doesn't seem right but I have it now! Not that I've taken it out in the dodgy weather yet.......
Had I been a better fit, I would have gone for a handbuilt in Leeds Bob Jackson steel frame for £400.Faster than a tent.......0
