  • One problem we need to own up to as a community is the poor behaviour of many cyclists.

I'm based in London and when I see the way many cyclists behave in traffic I'm not surprised we have become pariahs.

I know it's not everyone but those of us that don't behave like w*****s need to pull up thos that do.

i agree and if i am with a cyclists that breaks rules i will tell him or her.but for me who drives for a living i also see cyclists act like w*****s and its frustrating.just as i said above its hard sometimes to take abuse as i cycle like i drive and obey all signals and so on.

Maybe cyclists ride inconsiderately because of the behaviour of motorists ?

Yes we need to pull up cyclists who ride like that but I don't see it as an excuse for the behaviour of motorists - I honestly can't remember the last time I was driving and a cyclist did something that either put me at risk or inconvenienced me because of their lack of consideration.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

  • I am utterly sick to death of the argument that, because some cyclists behave in a way that annoys motorists, all cyclists need to put up with driving that ranges from frightening to fatal.

  • Some people are just horrible. I despair at the human race when I think of the kind acts vs the horrible acts I see. As I sat in traffic watching a man punching his steering wheel becasue someone stalled at the lights and it went red agian I wondered what that person was like when he got home to wife and kids. And listening to the lorry driver who hadn't switched his phone off properly was an eye opener. He was obviously driving along and screaming to himself 'get out of my way you c#nt' and 'f##king move you f##king idiot or i'll ram you off the f##king road'. This went on for a full 10 mins.

Don't expect me to accept your criticism if given - even if correct. If you want to be in a position to verbally push me around then join the police, until then p*** off and mind your own beeswax.

I don't think it's motorists, cyclists, motorcyclists, lorry drivers or any other particular section of the community; it's people that are the problem - as humans we are basically selfish.

It's no different to the huffing and puffing that goes on in a supermarket or airport queue, or the tutting at the fat bloke who swears too loudly in the pub, if something goes against our own preferences, we see it as an affront. As my neice says. "People are just rubbish aren't they?"

Its everyone theres just bad tempered people about. Cyclists without lights that think their high-viz is the ultimate in body armour are on my Cr@p list atm although one down from pavement riding numpties.

Couldn't agree more. I don't know if it is any worse than it use to be or if I notice it more as I've got older. But it seems everyone has got an opinion nowadays, and it's deemed okay to "be confident and speak your mind". Well... what was wrong with trying to muddle along with bit of diplomacy, and get on with people?

David Mitchell writes some good articles in the Observer Review. I enjoyed this one which sums up the mentality of the overly-opinionated quite nicely.
