Gutted. Went on a ride on the Monkey Trail today at Cannock Chase, got back home and was knackered so went in and had some lunch. Went out to my car on the drive half hour later and some c*nt has forced the bike carrier on the roof rack and made off with my Trek Fuel ex8. £1700 worth of bike.

My own fault I feel for not taking it straight off.... but heegh, I live in a not bad area, my car was on the drive, the bike was locked on the carrier and it was half hour.

Called the police who will come round tomorrow evening to take a statement. Not sure what the point is really apart from me getting a crime number for the insurance. Even that is a p*sser cos on my contents insurance the bike limit is £1500 and excess of £200, so I'll be getting £1300 for my bike and a hike in next years premium.

Likely to be a local scroat who hopefully will realise what he has got and want a decent price for the bike and go to ebay...... I shall be keeping my eye out. Anyone else found a bike for sale that was theirs?

So peeps, keep your bike out of sight, avoid leaving it if you can and get it hidden in the garage locked up.

AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!

  • Dude sorry to hear, no matter how tired or lazy I am I always go proper with my bikes. especially having 3 nice bikes and a motorcycle stolen from my back garden in Cambridge with locked gate and everything chained up well.

Gotta come proper or it can get stolen anywhere!
  • This I know mate - just a moments lapse and "it'll never happen in broad daylight attitude" ends in a kick in the nuts.....

Wow, that sucks! Sounds like the moron was waiting for you to get home. Maybe the police will dust for prints.

Don't blame yourself though, you weren't to know and one would hope your lock would work.

I now have 2 super duper D-locks and fat cables attached to the roof rails on my car. might get a fatter cable too though.

Saying that, someone nicked my brakes once. Not nice.

Hope the b**turd, yes I mean turd, gets caught and castrated. And you get you bike back.
    Many happy trails!

I'd say it was more likely you were followed home, either all the way or someone spotted the bike on the rack on the way and followed you. It's a classic one. Follow home, wait for you to pop inside knowing people don't always unload the bike immediately, and then nick it.

Garages and sheds are even better for them. Quiet places for them to work, especially if you go out.

Gutting though. Sad world we live in, but they know only to well that you'll claim on the insurance. Keep the next bike very secure and watch it like a hawk for the first few months as they'll likely be back to see if they can nick the replacement.
  • Sorry to hear that.

Where abouts in Bham? I will keep a look out.

Any obvious differences from the standard spec?

Black and white Trek fuel ex8, maxxis ignitor tubeless on rear, maxxis Hi roller tubeless on front apart from that pretty standard - oh, covered in mud from the chase!

Will be keeping the replacement super secure - as I did my Trek...... usually.....

  • My bike gets put in ther car, in my bedroom or i'm riding it.
You just cant give people anu opportunity these days :(

Hope you get it sorted fella.
  • How did you get £1800 when it was insured for £1000? I have the receipt, but doubt they'll give me a penny more than the £1.5k limit minus the excess......

With regards to bike in the bedroom, my misses may have something to say about that...... Only one riding machine allowed in the bedroom!

Having insurance is a relief, if not for the full value, but nothing stops the rage I'm feeling - I so hope it ends up on ebay and I can go round someones house to look at it.... just me and a couple of mates....

That's sh1te, Its a sad world when you cant leave stuff bolted to something. When we were burgled last year they tried to take my bike but it was d locked to a lawnmower and a table saw, so they lobbed a brick through the patio doors and had Mrs G's laptop instead.

I'm up and down the x city line tommorrow so i'll keep my eyes open
Mountain biking is like sex.......more fun when someone else is getting hurt

lol. But still, I keep my mtb in my living room. (Elemenated flooring, so i just wipe clean) I live in a block of flats, so I'm not leaving it on the stairwell, aspecialy with the scum that live around me. I have a shed downstairs aswell, but that got broken into, and the padlocks were Angleground off! Because I am private renting, the council said it was not there problem, so I do not use it anymore, and the bike bits, like spare wheels, tyres etc are all gone.
As for the misses (not rele the misses, as were not married) My name is one the bills, so I put my bike where I want!!

I would guess that because he had receipts for the 'upgrades' they could be classed as separate items and therefore not the overall cost of the bike.
  • Will look for separate receipts then.

Bike carrier was an alto one.

Thats almost certainly a genuine seller though so I doubt it. Plus he offers a shock pump and sag indicator.

Feel your pain mate, I've had a bike nicked in the past, and it's not a nice feeling. Mine's kept in the house now, i flat out refuse to keep it anywhere else, and luckily the missus doesn't mind.

Fingers crossed your insurance pays out.
  • Just noticed scratches on my car. Boot lid and rear wing where the cretin has dragged it off.

Gave insurance details this morning and they will pass to the claims department and call me in the next 72 hours. Feel nervous waiting to see if they'll pay out. Read the policy details regarding theft from motor vehicle which this was classes as and it ain't too clear. Has me a bit worried. Mentions about car on or away from property, valuables locked in and out of sight and forced entry causing damage to car.

    Fingers crossed

I'd like to trust it's genuine (though you can't be too reliant on 100% feedback, especially when all the sales were private!), but I do find it odd that so many second hand bikes seem be nearly new but being sold due to a knee injury. I keep coming across such listings, not just on ebay.

Question is why are so many people buying new bikes and getting knee injuries so fast after buying them?

    Hmm :?:

Pffft, I've had an ongoing knee injury for 17 years and took up mountain biking three years ago. It's either all very suspicious, or some people need to man up!
