I have a specialized enduro, rear shock fox dhx 5.0. Rode the W2 trail at afan forest at the weekend but seemed to struggle throughout the whole trail. it felt like i was riding through glue all day or like someone was holding me back just couldnt seem to produce any speed, even whilst coasting it always felt like my bike was going to stop.

Im relatively fit, not over weight at all.

any suggestions on what could be causing this. Tyre resistance??

anyone else had an issue like this???

  • Have you checked to see if the brakes are rubbing, if the wheels turn smoothly, if the drive train is running smoothly.

What tyres were you using and at what pressures?

Other than that, sometimes i'll go out for a ride and feel like I'm being held back but really it's just me having an 'off' day and i'm just feeling lethargic.

  • Sounds like tyres are under inflated, or the brakes are rubbing or something.

First bet would be to check the wheel spins freely without being held back, and that the brakes arn't rubbing the rotors.

    The check tyre pressure.
  • tyres run freely and brakes dont catch nor rub. i pumped the tyres up so they were quite firm and increased abit of pressure in the rear shock and it still felt like i was dragging, just struggling to get anywhere even on the granny ring!?!

ive got a panaracer cinder on the front and a nobby nic schwalbe on the back

    wheel bearings?
Fox DHX is not an air shock, so increasing the pressure in the little piggyback unit won;t firm up the ride, just make the bottom out thump a bit less harsh.

Except of course the dhx air shock....

Could be your drive train, is it sparkly clean and well lubed?
Could be the weather too. Maybe.
    Many happy trails!

Ah, when I got my coil DHX 5.0, there was no DHX 5.0 Air.
  • Wheels bearings is a good shout. when my bike was dragging, i loosed the brakes and everything and couldnt solve it; eventually i noticed that the front wheel wouldnt spin free even when i was holding the axle in my hand. turned out i had closed the QR lever too tight, and squished the bearings. just loosed them ABIT (like an 8th of a turn) and viola. back to normal.

QR lever shouldn't cause the bearings to do that, unless there's something wrong with the hub in some way.

you don't normally ride a roadie do you? Cos an Enduro isn;t going to be the fastest of rides...

Rebound too slow on the rear shock? This sometimes makes the bike feel like it's bogging down because there's no "spring" in the ride.

Or just getting old. That's my usual excuse anyway.

    Headwind? Lol
  • Is the chain routed correctly through the rear deraillier?
  • An unfortunate combination of all of the above?
