Should I get my LOOK 585 repainted?

I love my LOOK 585 dearly, it really is a fantastic bike, but I quite fancy a bit of a change for no good reason. It's quite an early one, I bought it for Christmas 2005. Nude carbon, silver and red decals. Pic below in an early incarnation (bars/stem now 3T team, black Record skeleton brakes, Record chainset).
So off to the Cycle Show. Sadly nothing really caught my eye. Not even the Colnagos or Pinarellos.
The new LOOK 695 is pretty blingtastic but I keep thinking that how would it be better than my 585. So then I thought how about a repaint? And if so what colours? And then my eye fell on this - 596 Mondrian.
So what say the Bikeradar Massive, repaint my 585 or new frame. And if repaint, Mondrian or something else?
Ta.

Errr - you remember the VW Golf Harlequin specials from a few years ago? That's that Mondrian that is. Loved by one, mocked by many.
I'd say no if you don't want to regret it in a few minutes time.
Go stealth black and spend the rest of the wedge on blingy stealth bits (deep wheels, carbon seat post, stems, bars etc) - remember carbon isn't easily painted (see posts passim) and its expensive to do.
The frame is good enough to do anything you want, upgrade the rest - gruppo, forks (if you really want to), pedals, Chris King headset bearings in black, etc.
But that's just me.0 -
If you do repaint it please don't do it like the Mondrian - my eyes have started suffering with bright colours lately and inducing migraines and looking at that picture has just set them off again!0

Could you leave it black but with a matt finish? Like the C59 or new Maxima RSExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

That Look bike reminds me of the old La Vie Claire jersey."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0

I like the Mondrian bike - but I wouldn't spend money on a repaint just to make it look a bit better - depends how much money you have I suppose. It looks OK as it is - same frame and wheels as mine as it happens - though yeah I wouldn't mind a bit more colour on it too.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
Yossie, it's already pretty well blinged out. Carbon 3T bars, Campag Record throughout, and I've got some Cosmic Carbones for it as well as the ES wheels. Now with white Arione saddle.
Tom, I probably agree, I also like the stealth look, but not matt black. So maybe nude carbon with simple 'LOOK' and '585' in bright white (not silver as mine), and maybe a small rainbow stripe band for a bit of colour.
Dunno
PS I was out riding with a gang on Sunday, one fellow on a C50 and another on a C40, both in classic Colnago schemes - they looked fantastic. Which is what got me thinking. I'm less keen on the new Colnagos to be honest.0 -
You could get some vinyl graphics made up instead - then you avoid the rubbing down, (& extra weight!) and non reversible process of painting. Vinyl graphics dont work so well on curves & joint sections but such gaps could easily be incorporated into a convincing Mondrian style design.
I'm sure I've seen examples of graphics commissioned by others on this board.
Then if you don't like it, go off it, want to sell or want to change it back you can do so easily.
You could mock it up really easily and cheaply for a couple of quid with some rolls of coloured electrical tape from Poundstretcher to see what you think.Ribble Gran Fondo

Sounds like its pretty nigh on Yossie perfect then - then again, I am a bit of a stealth black colour scheme kind of guy.
It's a really pretty frame as well, so I think it would be wrong to detract from the form by slapping a load of colours all over it - design, form, function and all that jazz.
But that's just me.
I'll back to the kettle now - cup of tea and a biccie anyone?0 -
Just take the saddle bag off and it will look much better and no need for a re-spray.Mañana0

Love the Mondrian.. if only I had 6K. Its the only bike that I lust after
Do it. It has to be the best looking bike EVER made. Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?0 -
That Look bike reminds me of the old La Vie Claire jersey.
Wasn't La Vie Claire team in those colours because Look sponsored them and so they wore Look colours?0 -
Indeed.

Yes, it was a long time ago though so I can be forgiven for forgetting..."I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -

It's because both of them were influenced by Piet Mondrian

Go for the MondrianCannondale Supersix / CAAD9 / Boardman 9.0 / Benotto 30000

I always like the Look Mondrian scheme when introduced in about 1986, never mind the new one. I'd get someone to mock-up the graphics because the 585 tube profiles are narrower so might not have the same proportions / impact. If you do go for the respray, try Atlantic Boulevard for a quality finish - don't expect it to be cheap though as there's lots of masking / colours. I had my Colnago resprayed a few years ago by AB - it's nice to have something unique and it's timeless too.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
