i've got eggbeaters on my scalpel @ the moment and have previously used shimano pedals. I am selling the scalpel so i'll probably leave the eggbeaters on it. I do not know what sort of pedals to get.... eggbeaters or shimano. I sort of liked both the sets of pedals, (they both had their good and bad points) I am getting a genius and moving into more allmountain riding so was lookin at getting either a set of candys, acids or some shimno xt or xtr pedals. one thing that i liked about the shimano pedals is that they were a lot stonger and more reliable than the eggbeaters. also, what is the main sort of difference between xt pedals and xtr?? is it mainly the weight??
My bike takes me places that school never could

Shimano M540's for me. Never let me downSpecialized Rockhopper Comp 2009.0

I'd go for the acid pedals, been really impressed with the cartridge bearing versions, the C&C ones are rubbish though.
New xtr trail pedals will be interesting however.0 -
New Eggbeaters look to address all the problems with the old ones, so they get my vote, particularly as I never personally had problems with the old ones!0

Shimano's never failed from the basic 520's through to the caged platform 647's even with no maintenance over than a hosepipe. They just work it's just a matter of adjusting to your own requirements which is only a screw on each side.0

I've have both Eggbeaters and 540's
For me it's Eggbeaters every time - Lighter, superior at shedding mud, easy clip in, easy servicing and they look betterSpecialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon

SPDs. They just work, work and keep on working. If they do eventually come a bit loose, it's an easy job to fix them. Also, m520s are cheap!Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

although I really loved my eggbeaters, after two sets failing on me, well it's been XT SPD's since, and they are certainly more reliable, only downside is the mud shedding capability, but that's only been a couple of times so no big one.0

XTR here and all good. Those new Eggbeater 11's look tasty though!0
