Why are DC forks called triple clamps?

The thing is I just don't understand this at all.
Yes there's 3 clamps on the crown but there's 2 crowns! Surely that's 6!

    2 crowns and a bolt axle was the old reasoning.

    then they became dual crown

    and bot are switch-able in names.

    there are differences triple clamps have three clamps . these are the two braces and your bolt through clamp . Duel crown forks (which are no longer common) have just the two top braces and a QR drop out on the lowers. These were common on the RS Judy XL , RS SID XL , marzocchi JrT pre 2004 , Manitou X-Vert XL , pace RC 38 (?) , White Bros forks have this on the current forks .
