Have you looked at the geometry?0
-
the heckler seems to have slacker angles compared to the meta0
-
WHat do you prefer? Looked at reach too? Parts compatibility?0
-
i am swaying towards the hecklar because it looks a bit more slackler than the meta i know i will need a new headset and seat post but i think i will be able to move everything else across0
-
Is it a meta 5.5 your looking at? iirc its got a slacker head angle than the Heckler as the heckler shares my blurs head angle. I rode a meta, it inspired more confidence downhill imho than my blur.0
-
its the 5.5 its just the top tube on the meta looks like it would hinder downhill as its does not curve like the heckler0
-
TBH it depends what sort of downhill you are talking about?0
-
For the love of god don't get a meta 5.5 for DH, it'll just snap at the shock mounts!0

What about a blur lt?A Flock of Birds
+ some other bikes.0 -

Know that from experience do you? If its a 2010 frame I've yet to hear of any problems with them....so stop talking $hite!!0 -
Take as look at the Mondrakers......0

id go for a Blur LTI like bikes and stuff0

How would that hinder going downhill?
Stand over height is a thing of the past unless you have a disporportionate body.
I did a fair bit of research before I bought my Meta and found no problems with "snapping at shock mounts" or whatever BS was said above.
Doddy took his Meta pretty much everywhere (and that was one of the old ones that did tend to snap!) some of the stuff he did on his i'd never have the balls to do.
The Meta is great for trails pointing downwards. Not necessarily DH. But then no 140mm travel bike is a DH bike so I don't see what you're getting at.
If you want to go DH, get a DH bike.
If you want relitive ease and lots of confidence while going downhill on trails (not DH) i'd recommend the meta to anyone.
However the Meta doesn't climb particularly well becasue it is fairly slack and bouncy when you stand up.0 -
TBH i think if you look hard enough you will find faults suffered with most brands of bike.
2 of my mates have just had to warranty 2 2009 meta 5.5's, one has cracked at the pivot point on the downtube and the other has cracked there and also at the top tube and seat tube join.
However i would still buy one as the warranty system seems good.
You also hear of hecklers failing at the pivot bolt point and they get sorted quickly as well.0 -
My Heckler works fine for a bit of DH. But it isn't a DH bike!

Interesting camera angle TBH.0

Very professional camera angle you could say, that one could go straight into MBUK
TBH any sensibly slack, solidly built full suss will cope with UK downhill courses. And the current Meta's stopped snapping, you could say that Commencal have more knowledge now of frame failures than anyone else out thereUncompromising extremist0 -
Yep. I've had a Meta 5.5 fail at the rear sus pivot points whilst descending Charity Lane at Macclesfield Forest. Very unnerving! (Mine was a 2007)...
Got a 2008 5.5 VIP frameset on warranty.0 -
i dont want to do full on downhill just the downhill at cannock but mainly red and black runs at trails center so rock gardens 3,4 fr drops nothing to radical0
