I never have any money.

I can never afford to buy stuff I want. :(

The tax office messed up.

They gave my wife £700 back.

She gave it to me and told me to go and buy a bike. :D

I'm picking up a new road bike later today.

(never had one before, very curious, sorry)

    Giant Defy.

I have been assured it will do what I want without breaking the bank, or my ars3. I can get the 2010 model pretty cheap atm. The whole point is to improve fitness levels and climbing ability (and pedaling technique), But purely for the benefit of my mtb (honest). I'm even going to clip in (good god, fingers crossed).
  • Have fun with it man! Road bikes are actually quite good as long as youve got some decent roads to ride on, and are great for improving fitness. Have fun with it, and i do highly recommend clipping in, helps worlds with road bikes.

Thats better than my wife, she would spunk on twilight related things. She buys these lifesize cardboard cutouts of all the characters from the movies which are stupidly expensive.

At least she doesnt complain when i spunk tons of money on bike stuff, which a huge plus.

I would say does she use thes things but that would be a bit freaky? (do you have to wear glitter to go to be though?)
These stupidly expensive bags/coats etc are very nice but they just gather dust in cupboards and never get used!

    1. These would make excellent targets for practicing archery
    2. These are made of cardboard, therefore they BURN!
    3. Combine items 1 + 2 above for some Bonfire Night fun. :D

Don't get me started. £60 for sparkly pumps for a 4 year old. More hats than heads by a couple of powers of ten. Handbags with their own wardrobe. wtf!

Got really wet on its first ride out.
  • Excellent - how did you find the ride? :D

It was absolutely pi55ing it down, so I found it very wet and hard to see.

The bike just wanted to go faster and faster and I had a stitch within about 5 minutes. Scared the crap out of me and I nearly fell off, I found it hard to steer, my thumbs hurt very quickly, the lack of braking was scary. Only really managed a quick spin round the block.

    It was bloody awesome. :D
  • What I liked about road bikes:
    They are very VERY fast!

What I didn't like about road bikes:
The riding position did not agree with my back
The brakes are made of cheese
Every tiny pebble felt like a mahoosive boulder
I was convinced that the tyres were going to wash-out on every corner
I'm not a fan of having to avoid pot-holes, or slow right down for speed bumps

    That said, crack on

I had a go on a roadie in Majorca... incredible switchback, smooth mountain roads (huge climbs too!!) but it was great... I had a Allez comp, with 105 everything, and it felt awesome... really light and fast, handled well, brakes were OK, and mostly it was just immense to be able to be able to sprint at 35kph on the flat! and go up a 1300 V.M climb like it was nothing... At an average of like 14 kph (it was steep, 1300 vertical over 8KM)
