Hi I looking at getting some new winter tyres, prob Mud-X as a friend has recommended and also seem to be some good reviews.

My question is which size would be best to run on the rear. 1.8 or 2.0 ?

I run the 2.0, and I find them fine. They aren't the fattest already so a 1.8 is probably very skinny.

I read that the sknnier you go the better they are in mud but that the more uncomfortable and mud specific the tyre gets. As i heard the mud-x is actually pretty good on hard surface too (for a mud specific tyre) i went for 2.0 hoping to maintain a little more all condition functionality. I usdd them in very muddy conditions last weekend and they rocked. Never used 1.8 so got nothing to compare them to.

Dubcat is right about the dry use. Mud Xs ride brilliantly deep into spring. Its only the higher drag that really makes them a bad summer tyre, if it weren't for that you could ride them all year. Hence why I also have 2.0s.

Thanks all, I'llI order the 2.0's.
  • On width it depends how deep and sticky your local mud is.

The deeper and stickier it gets the thinner i'd advise. However if it's really deep and thin i'd go for the bigger one.
