right, i know there are a few tarts around...

i cant decide whether to go black or silver spokes for some new wheels, so wondered about alternating the colours

anyone done this and got any pics?

would it look good? or nasty?

(green rims and black hubs if it matters)

  • black spokes. for some reason i just think silver spokes look silly. and im just as tarty as you, i paid an extra £35 on my wheels for black spokes and gold nipples, and the performance increase (less weight, more strength) was purely coincidental.

you could maybe get away with alternating black and white but I think it might be a bit too much. But for sure black and silver spokes would look gash!

I think 1/3rd of the spokes in my traversees are dark grey and the rest are black. TBH it looks bloody silly once you notice it. I got them used and I thought the previous owner must have half-destroyed the wheels

  • I don't know if all the kids are doing it, but a couple of the younger guys from my local group have black or coloured spokes all the way around the wheel, apart from the two spokes either side of the valve - which are white. To be honest I don't get it.

  • Having spokes to mark the valve is fairly useful...

Personally I wouldn't advice coloured nipples on a mtb as alloy nipples are generally pants.
