This looks wrong but could it be correct?

Looking at the seat post in this picture, can it be used that way? Or has the ebay seller just fitted it incorrectly?

It can be used that way I guess, though the forces on it will be a little different from intended. I think he just fit it wrong, must be an odd riding position!

Looks like the bike was too big for him and he's spun the seatpost round and moved the saddle forward to try and compensate.

Cable routing looks a bit odd though!

yes it can if the bike is too big.

or the rider wants to copy the dirt jumpers.

or the owner knows no better.

    quite a long stem too....

i would guess that they tried to compensate for it being too long by moving the saddle as far forward as they could....then they realised they could get it further forward by spinning the seatpost...

I'd be viewing before purchasing if he's built it himself (or at least asking him so Q's)....Rear hose (brake cable as described) looks very short, can't see any front brake fitted, single chainring conversion by the looks of it, so no front mech or L/H shifter.

Bike was owned by a numpty, I reckon.
  • Its all very wrong looking- as is his description, the more you read the less sense in makes!

    Glad to know
This is a very high performance bike and specializes in xc
, personally I find my bike specialises in being a bike, and that's a very odd way to write what the bike is designed for!

But I know that there's is no way I would want to ride a bike with the saddle positioned like that!

And I may be being picky, but if you are listing parts, spell the blinking things right!

Not really sure what the owner was trying to achieve, but if it was totally ruining a decent bike then he got what he wanted.

Stay well away, owner looks like a bit of a dickhead.

So you're saying people who buy 2nd hand are dickheads then?

No, I meant it would be satisfying to buy the bike from him for a fraction of what it's worth, parting HIM from his money's worth, if you see what I mean.
  • It must be my day to stumble across ebay bikes that are built incorrectly.

FWIW and ignoring the obvious, this bike looks like a real quality bit of kit. And for less than an mmmbop frame!

lol, the forks are on the wrong way and the chain and rear mech doesn't look great either with that much slack in it.

Are they though? If they were then surely the brake calipers would be on the back too, they seem to be spot on.

A lot of forks seem to be this way around, Manitou especially (I think). I always think it looks weird.

Yes, they ARE the wrong way round, most certainly.
Look at the angle of the crown, and the dropouts?
And the calliper IS on the other side of the fork to the usual.

Oh my god that was a moment of absolute stupidity wasn't it, as soon as I had a second look there was that horrible realisation - oops!!!!!!!

Can't even think of an excuse to defend myself for that one it really was a belting mistake!

I think I'd better get someone to check every bit of work I've done today as I'm definitely not on the ball, fortunately my work has nothing to do with bikes or building stuff!!!!!

Best thing to do is laugh it off.
I take it you missed my epic tirade about chain length, before I realised I'd measured my chain, then later fitted a chain tensioner?

Don't worry I started laughing (with a red face) as soon as I realised.

We all have to make an ar$e of ourselves now and then or the world would be a boring place! Will have to fine the chain tensioner thread now!

    Ha.

Maybe the owner of the Pitch just really likes climbing.
  • I asked the seller why the forks are on the wrong way round, I await a reply

You're easily amused. So did I because I don't have a life. The person putting it together was in a rush. Thanked me and promised new pics. That should make it more tempting anyway.
