By using some easily found cable conduit holders I've come up with this.......
iphonepics785.jpg
and you can adjust the angle on them too - cost pennies..... :)
Having tried and trashed most of the 'tat' sold on ebay for these lights I can say that these are bombproof....

shouldnt the brackets be at right angles to the torch???
  • Depends where you mount them, ive got them slung underneath the bars, you can spin them round to have them in or further out depending on preference.

I bought a couple of the Tesco £3 ones, when they had the 3W Cree LED bulbs. The batteries cost more...

(That said, I do have a set of Lumicycle LED lights...)

id love some hope 4 LED or the likes but for what essentially a torch they all seem massively overpriced.

there must be a cheap army surplus alternative, like with the goretex trousers.
  • These were from deal extreme, all in with batteries and charger was about £60 for the pair. claimed 900 lumen - no idea if this is right but hold thier own against the Hope one my mates got.

    I might try this!

The torches output 5-600 lumens. But Hope doesn't output what they say either...

Haven't tested the Tesco one's against the Lumi LED yet, but here they are against a Halogen Bulb:

I'm guessing the Tesco outputs about 150 lumens

They're okay to commute with, but wouldn't wan't to go off-road with them.

i use a P7 from BestOfferBuy (which im pretty sure is the same as DX)

its rated at 900 lumens, but i reckon its closer to 400 as it gives off v similar light to my 250 lumen torch, just with a wider spread

like the home made brackets (although ive found the velcro ones off eBay to be pretty good). Def like the idea of mounting under the bars. Might try that.

Do you have a link to the velcro mounts you mention on ebay?

    Many thanks

I have no idea how many lumens my P7s actually throw out (apart from "more than enough"), but I do have a lux meter, and they are off the scale, even at 10 meters.

It's that spread where the extram lumens go. Most tend to be about 5-600 lm output. Actual brightness that we percieve is lux. But imagine a laser... wouldn't light much of the trail up lol.

Lol, I did take one out on a ride once just to see how far away I could see the spot! A long, long way!

I did this years ago too. First we tried pointing it at distant road signs, to see if they're light up.
    They did
Then we tried pointing it at very distant things, like a handy castle nearby.
We ended up using binoculars, and could still see it.
I reckon it was actually getting even further than we could make out using the binoculars :D

The power they put out nowadays is immense! Those old red ones used to be 1mw. You can now get a 200mw laser for 30 quid! I have a 10mw green laser, good fun. Just don't point at helicopters lol.
