Morning all

Looking to change up the wheels on the ‘Hopper in the next couple of weeks. Pretty much sold on some Fulcrum wheels (Red Metal 3/5).

At the weekend i found another broken spoke in my rear wheel – 2nd in about 6 weeks. Most of my riding is done on flat trail. Am quite a heavy rider (around 15.5 stone), so am thinking that i need a pretty solid rear wheel.

Was thinking that i could mix and match my wheels, going for Red Metal 3 up front and then Red Zone at the back (have found two people selling separate wheels).

Since Red Zone are Enduro/FR is figured they would be stronger than the Red Metal 3’s ? is that the case, or is there little diff ?

The weight differential is marginal – 940g for RM3 and 980g for RZ

What do you think ?

Cheers

  • No experience of the RZ but I have used RM3s in the past. I'm not the skinniest racing snake out there (13.5 stone) but for the two years I was using them they stayed true and needed very little hub maintenance.

And they put up with a lot of riding on Dartmoor including through the winter.

Fulcrum make great wheels that haven't really caught on in the MTB world yet.

I'v just ordered a set or Red Metal 5's. Got Evans to price match On-One as the On-One version was splined and needed the 6bolt rotor version. Delivered to my door for £99.99, well should be here by the end of the week :D
