As above which is the best option?

I don't commute at the moment...

So I just cycle for fitness and for fun now, I was cycling in the park and got very, very wet in a down pour my gear was soaked and my shoes  which wil be the best option for me?

Comments

  • My preference is for over shoes...tried sealskinz, found they made my shoes too tight and where uncomfortable
For wet weather always preferred neoprene overshoes, had a lovely pair of Sidi's ones way back, which unfortunately wore out and couldn't find a replacement, currently using Endura which certainly do a good job, although the ankle closure does dig in a bit
hope this helps...be interested to see what others say as its probably quite a personal decision
    cheers

  • This will be a very personal choice, plenty of people will use both and be quite happy with their choice. I tried the Seal Skins and didn't like them, felt like they were made from cardboard. Much prefer overshoes, use Endura ones at the moment, but they don't keep your feet dry, not if it rains heavily enough, they'll just keep your feet warm. Depends if that's important to you? Oh and overshoes keep your shoes clean :D

    Get both!
Sealskinz are brilliant for warm-ish rainy days, overshoes for when it's colder.

Overshoes every time with seal skins to add when it's really wet. Sealskins also loose their effectiveness after several washes :(

I use thick merino cycling socks with these overshoes http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ty ... 17&ID=2192

My feet have always been dry and warm with this combo

  • I have both

I've found that my neoprene Endura overshoes are more sweaty, but much warmer.
My sealskins will eventually let water through and wont protect your shoes from crap.

FWIW I got the Sealskinz first as I used them off the bike aswell.

Try some Planet X overshoes. Work a treat, even off road in winter.

Overshoes every time for me, only place sealskinz would be better is if it's not raining but the roads are still wet so you get some water splashing up from puddles (but not enough to run down through the tops of the sealskinz)

I use Castelli Diluvio overshoes and cannot praise them highly enough.

Keep feet toasty warm even when the wet gets in.

Overshoes and merino socks for me. Don't spend a fortune on the overshoes though - my mates bought goretex ones a few years back and they fell to pieces quickly. You'll prob need to replace them each winter or so anyway.

Overshoes only wotk for clipless pedals. If you are using platforms then use sealskinz.
My sealskins lasted for about 3 years before they leaked.

You stop water running down the top of the socks by wearing waterproof overtrousers.
