Just watched BBC breakfast news.

There's Ray Davies boring on about some 'new' reworkings of his old kinks songs with current artists like Mumford and sons, Paloma Faith and..... Jon Bon Jovi. For some reason Metallica had got themselves involved too.

Ray Davies really believes he is the sh*t. He's so full of his own self importance and 'relevance' it's stomach churning.

I'm sure it was only a year ago he was on the same programme banging sagely on about some 'new' reworkings of his old songs he'd produced with the help of the crouch end choir or some other bunch of goons.

Guy needs to write some new material that isn't boring or invent a time machine.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Kinks are in the top five bands that this country has ever produced. Their songs are some of the best ever even now (original recordings by the kinks).

Maybe i'm tired or something but this is a grotesque cash cow getting milked to it's slow and painful death and is doing no-one any favours.

Apart from Ray presumably.

Not really any different to another Beatles re-issue,Phil Collins reinventing soul music , Pink Floyd muttering about 'reforming' etc. It's all been done but the money is there, just don't paticipate in it.

Pink floyd said they'd only do it for charity gigs like live8 etc i think.

The problem is it's all better than much of the new stuff around...

  • I saw him in a musical he wrote centred around their hit "Come Dancing". It was on at the Theatre Royal Stratford. IMO it was great.
  • He may need to earn some quick monies to pay off an old tax bill from the 60's..or maybe to re-kindle his 'Kinkie' needs
