Can new Shimano chains use a master-link?

Yes - KMC or Connex work fine provided they're for the same width chain

The DA chains were originally supplied with a Shimano master link but there were problems with them breaking so they went back to pins.

I've been using a KMC master link with a DA 7900 chain for ages and the other half's Ultegra 6700 chain came with a KMC master link straight from the bike shop.
