Hi I did the Whites route on Sunday Not quite sure what that is but it was my first foray off road other than a bit of cyclocross. Apparently it is described as 'difficult'.

Three of us had just done a Cross race in Carmarthen and tthe other two asked if I fancied a go on trails on the way home. Sure I said. "Got my kit". Mental fun. we did it in about 2hrs. I was aching all over and have soo much respect for MTB'ers now.

I've been told that I'm quite good too. :D

    Respect to you.
    A Flock of Birds
    + some other bikes.
  • Thanks, yes I did it on my Ridley Crossbow. I missed the turn and I went up the wall I thinkby mistake too. I did a bit of shoulder work there.

I did it on hardtail ONCE and won't be doing that again.

You did Whites on a cyclocross bike? You be what is referred to as a "nutter". :)
  • whites on a hardtails fine. not a huge amount different to riding fully imo, both have advantages and disadvantages.

riding fully ridgid however, i'm not sure i'd fancy a couple of the fast downhill sections. fair play to you 8)

Apart from the rocks on the last descent there's not that much there to catch you out, I'd get bored of cantis quickly though! It would be a lot more fun on an MTB I assure you!

'The Wall' is another trail, a deviation of a couple of hours, you wouldn't just happen upon it by missing a turn, glad you enjoyed it though.
  • I think that you're right, it may just have felt and looked for a wall! :D most things do to us testers.. Those sleeping poliecemen are mountainous!!

I'm not sure of full suspension. I think I'd prefer a hard tail. not going too spongy. The only MTB i've ridden felt like a bouncy castle compared to my softest bike.

  • I rode nothing but a hardtail for six years. In that time I did pretty much every big name trail centre in the UK plus a few downhill days with 2.5" tyres on it.

I recently converted to full suss and think it's the best. The main reason is to preserve your knees and back against the constant battering you get on a hard tail.
