'Trail' helmet recommendations?

My wife's looking to replace her old Trek 'wsd' helmet, which has been OK-ish, but has never fitted too well. She'd like something with a bit more coverage than her current 'XC' style helmet. Only one she's managed to try on so far has been the Fox one (think the design is called 'Flux'), but although the coverage was good, she didn't like the spoiler thing on top of it - and the shop hadn't got one small enough anyway.

Looking around the local bike shops, the selection of womens specific helmets is...well, absolutely c**p! As my wife has lost patience with helmet shopping, she's tasked me, as resident "bike geek" to come up with a helmet short-list.

Does anyone have recommendations for a female friendly 'trail' lid please?

TIA

Giro Xen.... not cheap... though bargain can be had... But absolutely brilliant helmet, great fit, awesomely comfortable, and looks good. The new version set to replace the xen is the Zar... it's expensive... but should be incredible. Alternatively the Hex is a good, cheaper option. Also look at the Met Kaos... but TBH I'd stick with the Giro's.... I have a Xen and absolutely adore it.
    I like bikes and stuff

[ur=http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Womens/11/Fox_Ladies_Flux_Helmet/5360051827/]Fox Flux[/url] - fits me a lot better than my old Specialized helmet did, and has more coverage on the back. Bit heavier, mind, but still comfortable.
  • fox flux or giro hex are both good for the £. its a personal thing though so she needs to try on as many as she can to see what fits best.
  • not quite a trail helmet but for good fitting an S works or specialise's propane are really good, the fox flux one came out top in a MB UK test so there really good or the new giro xar is brilliant for fitting venting and meets the trail criteria
  • Does it have to be female specific? None of mine have been female specific, they fit fine and do the job :D

    Cheers for the feedback.

Found a shop yesterday with the women's version of the Fox Flux, but even the smallest size was a bit too big. Also tried Giro Xen's but she's on the crossover in sizes between small & medium (the small was worth the comedy try on value tho - it looked like a perched beret :D ) She's gonna try and find a shop with a Specialized Tactic D4W, 'cos these (allegedly) bridge the small/med crossover of Giro.
  • hi just to note that the helmets normally get bigger as you wear them becuase the padding gets thinner.

i wear a small hex and when i first got it it was on the biggest setting now im in teh middle... still comfy i should add! :)

also dont just look at female specific ones, i wear small unisex/mens and have a pony tail - fits fine for me....

    good luck.

If you can wait a bit then the new POC range of trail helmets - Trabec - in blue green or black may be appealing early next year ...........something different
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!
