im wanting to have a cross country hardtail, but dont have much money at the moment.
i have a specialized hardrock 2007 and thought i could upgrade some parts on it like forks and brakes.
how good are the frames for upgrading, because i dont want to spend too much, if the frame isnt very good.

thanks

The frames are ok, but have got better in the last two years.

But you don't say what model hardrock, what the parts are, or your budget. Is it the standard Hardrock with V brakes?
  • err i think its a hardrock sport. its got cable disc brakes and rst forks which have never worked. i was thinking of putting a fork like recons on it, and something like shimano slx brakes.

New forks and brakes will make a difference, but looking at 250 quid minimum, and for better models closer tp 400. Given that you can get a new bike for 400 with 27 gears, RS forks and hydro disc brakes, selling the old and buying new should be considered.
  • looking to fund it by selling my meta. im unsure what my meta is worth tho. i would like to buy a new bike, but would also like some money spare, to pay for driving lessons. i was thinking upgrading would be cheaper.

Well you can get Recon Silver for 125. I would look at Avid Elixir 5 brakes at 130 (from Merlin). This is about as cheap as you can do it and make it worthwhile.
  • ive got a really old hardrock sport and ive just realised that the only original kit is the frame. oh man, that crept up on me!!
Am i strange in that i actually ENJOY going up hills? Yes, yes i am.
