I don't reckon I'll get past the family commitments for a Saturday spin, but I'm up for forming some sort of group for the Sunday.

I'm doing the long ride and vaguely aiming to creep into the silver standard, which is 6:15 to 6:50 for blokes.

If you or anyone else reading this is up for that sort of pace, let's see if we can sort something out. It'll be better than facing the elements solo, that's for sure.

If you want to hide, stay in your kitchen on your rollers.

That's everybody who rides in a group then.

Rode the 100 mile beast route yesterday in rain and high SW winds.
Looks like it could be wet on Sunday too.

  • Last Saturday I foolishly said that the weather for the EB couldn't be worse than last year, so if it is I willingly accept all the blame. Just hope I can ride over that cattle grid this time without slipping.

I'm planning a very moderate pace, solo or accompanied, all welcome to wheelsuck, have a chat, take the mick, chew the fat, discuss the weather, compare gear ratios, give me shelter from the storm, pretend to be my domestique, be Andy Schleck for a day to my Eddie the Eagle, tell me how great I'm doing, get me soup at Simonsbath, crash and burn on Conti Hill, admire the turning leaves and the crazy descenders, and frankly just have a laugh and enjoy ourselves.

Isn't that what cycling and sportives are for?

The good news is that the forecast is improving on a daily basis so we could be lucky. I'll still take you up on that generous offer of a wheel suck for 99.9 miles, before ducking out and sprinting past with arms aloft for the last 10 yards and then ignoring you with lofty disdain in the pits

    Have a great day.
  • I haven't been to Exmoor for years and probably never in the Autumn... what are the roads like - covered in leaves and slippery? Are standard 23 tyres ok??
