Hi all,
As I am sure some of you will have read - I am going to build and develop a Mountain Biking website for my Final Year Project. It will allow riders to search for trails near to them, view related photos and YouTube videos. It will also allow riders to see what amenities are nearby (Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs etc). Riders will also be able to select a route and download it onto their GPS device. Time permitting - it may also be possibe to build an iPhone App so that riders could use the GPS built into their iPhone to navigate trails.
Do you as riders feel that there is a requirement for a website such as this? Many biking websites already exist - but they have information scattered all over the place. If said website was setup and developed - what would your opinions be?
If you have any comments please reply - this will be used as part of my research.
Please use the Poll options - many thanks in advance!

Has the potential to be superb.
If i were thinking about say Cwmcarn, somewhere to click and see the Centre, car park and a few vids of trails would be excellent.Salsa Spearfish 29er

a website that has route maps, centre locations and details that are actually useful, user reviews, and the like, would be great IMO0

As a scuba diver i need a budy, and sometimes they are hard to find. Many dive sites have a noticeboard type thing where boats can display spaces and divers can put up for buddies.
Maybe a simplified version of the 'rides' section on here where people could just put up names and where and when they are meeting/riding would be good. Might be a quick and easy reference.
Photos of sections of trails to get a better idea of what they are like to supliment the little maps you get on webpages. would save going to you tube.
A calender section like you get at the back of 'Runners World' with a list of events in different areas each month. Starting times, entry fee, distance etc.
sections for people to put photos they take on rides. Maybe a casual vote by viewers each month to select thebest ones submitted?
Sure lots of this appears in different forms but never seen it myself!

That's great - I had thought of a similar system. I also am a Scuba Diver - so can imagine the frustration of struggling to find a buddy sometimes. The calender of events would be very useful. Thank you for your feedback!Specialized FSR XC Expert 20100 -
I will be at Cannock Chase within the next two weeks all being well - and will be asking riders for literally 1-2 minutes to put any thoughts or comments down on paper regarding a new website - hopefully some of you will be up that way :-)Specialized FSR XC Expert 20100

I have started some of the points you mention on my website (in my sig below) which I set up when I got interested in MTB and couldn't find a national database of all the trail centres.
As my website is just a hobby and is limited by googlepages, I cant add all the features you mention but I'd be interested to see what the final product looks like.My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0 -
I like the idea of people being able to submit and rate photos.
The information I would find useful-
Photos / videos
SATNAV location of the car park. I normally use the first longitude/latitude position from the GPS log I'm using.
Cost of the car park (or alternative free car parks)
A review (maybe a rating system) of different trails (not just trail centres). A bit like the rating/comments system on a site like amazon.
A GPS log and printable OS map in case the GPS device failed.
Nearby places to eat/drink
An interactive map of different places to ride in the UK (again, not just trail centres) with links taking you to the above information about the trail
At the moment this type of information is all over the place on the web so it would be good if it could all be brought together.
Good luck with your project. I wish I'd done something that interesting for my FYP!0
