Slipping when shifting to bigger gear

I've just bought my first bike - a Merida Road Race 903-18 (10) - last month. I love the bike and have clocked up circa 250 miles in the past couple of weeks, and enjoyed every minute.
However, recently I've noticed that when I'm shifting to a bigger gear, the chain seems to slip when I hammer down on the pedals - it's seems to go into an even bigger gear that I don't want to be in. I don't have the problem when shifting down,
I've booked the bike in for a service, but I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else. being a complete novice, I want to make sure it's not me doing it all wrong! And if it's the bike, it would be useful to know if this is a common ailment!
Appreciate any views or advice anyone may have.
Cheers.

Probably just cable adjustment. All new cables bed in and need adjusting after a while.
See here for how to set the indexing up. It will save a bit of money in future.

I used a Tiagra example but they are all very much the same. Scroll down to the RD section and open one of the SI docs.0 -
