following a post yesterday regarding the recovery time i just want to learn about the before time regarding the final decision process. I went for my pre op conselling yesterday & was happy enough with it apart from the fact the the doctor asked what would you do if one of your kids were to die or all of the including the m issus was to get knocked over by a bus or the equivelant.

Im 35 with 3 healthy kids 5, 2 and a 9 months & happy with that. I cant seem to breathe in front of the wife without her getting pregers hence the reason for the snip. The doctor also talked about pain that can occur for no apparent reason after getting the op. I guess they have to tell you these things.

Appreciate it if there were any thoughts on the above.

cheers

Only had pain DURING - when the injections went in. Worst thing was knowing he was going to inject the other one a few mins later.

    Wha about personality changes?

tMy neighbours had an ill behaved dog who was dificult to handle so they snipped it.

It's now as timid as a mouse.
  • Don't remember any pain with mine, I was advised to go for the full general anesthetic rather than a local as apparently you're more tense and bruise more if you're awake whilst the medics are tinkering down there.

the big worry for me was producing a good shot of blood about a week afterwards. apparently quite normal but no one thought to mention it to me beforehand and it doesn't half give you a scare.

I more worried about actually having sex again then getting someone pregnant.

    Two work colleagues, two stories....

One rode to & from Hospital on his motorbike. Going was fine, the return leg was mostly ok until he had to get off. During his ride home the anaesthetic had worn off. Without the assistance of his good lady he'd probably still be astride said bike.

Other lad wisely chose a taxi as his means of transportation. Upon arrival back at home, his 3yr old daughter ( playing in garden) ran to meet Daddy. She flung her arms around his thighs & her head being about crotch height, proceeded to headbutt him in his swollen & tender nethers. He states he dropped like a stone & spent a while rolling around on the lawn crying like a baby.

Err, they don't snip exactly the same things...
  • cheers for replies.....interesting that it seems a fairly common thing. You have to do something really otherwise you would end up with a heap ok ides

I will admit to delaying the snip until I was ready for it. My ex-wife wanted it done once we had the kids. I was less certain and waited till I was about 40 as I reasoned that I did not want to be a dad again after I was 40. As for the pain, the op itself was not a big issue. I had it under a local and watched the whole thing - quite interesting actually. However, I tried to carry a heavy rucksack after about a few days and I caused a small problem down there - blood coming out of the op hole. So as long as you are sensible - it will heal quite quickly without pain.

What exactly is the difference? In a dog do they just remove everything whereas in a bloke do they just remove some of the plumbing but leave the leave all the blood vessels so the hormones can be produced into the bloodstream?

The dog was castrated - don't think the OP is going that far

I got asked the question about what you would do if the worst happened to either of my kids (had it done straight after birth of second one and was still in my early 30s). Since that time my little one got seriously ill although fine now and I reflected back on that question. With hindsight I would still take the same path as I don't feel I could have replaced a child I'd lost but it really is one of those things you have to decide for yourself. Things going wrong long term are few and far between but I guess for those it does then they will have regrets.

Dont worry about it. Had it done 2 years ago. Uncomfy, thats all..........
    AFTER the injections went in!!!!

I had it done under a local anasthetic, advised against General as the doctors are alleged to be rather rough with you.
The 4 injections hurt. Wont lie to you, they bloody hurt. Doctor said its only like the dentist injecting you. If my dentist caused me the same pain, it hit him.

But the surgery went quick, in and out of the clinic within 4 hours, theater was 20 mins. Slight pain for 3 or 4 days. Had 1 week off work as I have a physical and often confrontational job. Office wallers could go back in next day if they felt like I did.

No pain since, nothing even slightly uncomfy.
WIsh I'd had it done years ago...... once you get the all clear, 15 or so 'emmisions' then you have no worries. No more kids to drain the bank account..... :D:D:D

Get it done, grit your teeth for the injections and relax.
    GOOD LUCK :wink::wink::wink:

It's like anything, you really only hear the extremes and the majority of people get through it with a few days of discomfort. The biggest pain was finding the money to pay for it!

I see - can I ask - why did you pay for it privately?

I believe the list in my area is only a couple of weeks or so - although I had still considered the private option too.

Was a long wait for NHS locally and (rightly or wrongly) I got the impression that being relatively young I was going to be a low priority / counselled out of it, 'only' cost a couple of hundred and had in done within a fortnight in a small operating theatre at my GP surgery.

i had mine done 3 weeks ago tomorrow. knackers still tender, whilst sitting around totally fine, but feel tender to the touch. getting better but not there yet. I cycled first time yesterday and sitting pedalling no discomfort, just when standing and descending on mtb they jangled around a little!

from my cycling group nearly all now snipped, and i have had the longest recovery time, just affects some differently, i am hoping the discomfort goes soon its somewhat irritating now..

and i now like sherry and nail varnish as a by product.

Had mine done about 10 years ago. No problems at all.

The injections were just slightly unpleasant, not painfull at all. Was a bit sore for a week or so but took it very easy. Put my feet up and got the missus to do all the running around, I was told the more you rested afterwards the better, this seemed to be the case.

So no pain, no swelling or bruising. Everything still works and feels the same.

    - Garry
  • Had it done under local and no real issue. seeing teh tubes as he lifted them to tie them was a wierd experience.

Probably had about a week of swelling and dull pain. Make sure you wear pants and not boxers for that extra support.

The bonus was I got sent a letter to confirm I was now sterile. Could tell the wife every time I went on a rugby tour that I would easily pull as I had proof I was the safest person to sleep with

Just make sure the anaesthetic has worked before they start cutting, my surgeon was a bit quick off the mark
  • cheers for all the responses. IIm booked in for november 13th.....dont know if looking forward to it or not & really you cant replace any children if for any circumstance that should occur. :

Think ill have to take a week off to recover 8)
  • well had the snip done on friday & grand since, if a bit tired. I think the thought of it beforehand is a lot worse than the actual procedure. I have a pysical job so going tho take the next few days off which im actually looking forward to but tahanks again for your responses

Injections? My Dr did not wait for it to kick in so boy did I feel the scaple!! If you go for it, when you feel the injection, sit up and make sure he waite a few minutes !!!
Personaly I regret having it done, there are other methods of birth control without having to resrot to something difficult to reverse after a long period of time.
  • I've had 2 mates have huge problems after the op after the surgeons made mistakes! one couldn't walk for 4 weeks the other nearly died and still hasn't gone back to work 2 years later. No way in hell am i getting it done - the missus can get spayed!!
