Hi,

When your chainstay protector gets somping wet after a ride do you leave it on the bike or take it off to dry?

i usually take it off, give it a clean if needs be and then dry it on the washing line
Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

    Never touch it, no need.
  • So when the neoprene has soaked up water just leave it? It wont damage the frame?

replace it with a proper inner tube chainstay protector, they're waterproof ;)

Yup.Mine only comes off when I need to change cables...so it's been off twice in two and a half years 8)
Dunno if it makes a difference on steel frames though.

It isn't a neoprene one on mine, it came with one of these as standard:

Then I'd definitely play it safe and take it off 8)

Its not going to make any odds what so ever wether you take it off or not, never seen any damage to a hardtail frame caused by leaving a wet chainstay protector on !!
If its on a full sus and the protector is covering a pivot bearing / bush then its worth taking it off now and again, keeping dirt / moisture on the pivits doesn't help them at all.

It's probably already too late, sadly. Your frame will be not only heavy and springy, but also rusted to death.
Time to cough up and get a nice shiny aluminium, Ti, or carbon frame instead
