This gives you a little to play with on change of stem / bars etc and for cables and any other ancillaries.

Obviously eBay, special offers and a lot more searching could bring the prices down further.

Aye, £1000's not much to custom build, but if you wanted to do that, I'd get an eBay Hasa carbon frame, saving £200, and try and get a SID and an SLX groupset.

For a grand, I'd probably just buy a Boardman.

+1 to On one's Whippet build, it's a better base to upgrade from as the frame is very good for XC

whilst there's nothing wrong with the components you've listed i think the the whole point of custom build is to make something different/special, whether that be colours or spec to suit your riding, that you can't just buy "off the peg"

I'd build it out of used bits, that's the only way to save money on a custom build IMO. Or alternatively I'd just buy the Onone or a Boardman.

i'm with njee here, ebay carbon frame to save a coupl eof hundred quid! better groupest / forks then,
i'll have a nose later and see what build i come up with for under a grand! quite looking forward to that!

I built my current bike for about £900 by purchasing some used components from the classifieds and some new items from various online sales - I think its a pretty good spec for the money

from the classifieds:

I have often done some ofthese projected builds on here, can be fun, but you still won't beat the Boardman for the parts ;-)
