I intend to add the vision 1 to my light set up. Who's got one and how good/bad are they.
Cheers Tony.

Cheers pal. Have you mounted it on the bars or on your helmet.
I would really like to know how good the helmet mount is. Cheers Tony.0 -
Only on the bars Tony. The helmet mount looks great though. Might give it a whirl next week!My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Cheers pal. I'm off to Evans in the morning to get one.0

i also have one and use 2700 batteries and have no complaints, it's a good light for the money.
I did have it on my mtb but it's now permanently attached to the road bike and is just what i need to go to work and back which includes a 2 mile stretch of unlit B road.
Never used the helmet mount yet so can't comment on this.2019 Ribble CGR SL

I got one last winter. A great light for the money. I get 3 hours on high setting out of 2700 rechargeables. I train on unlit moorland roads at night and find them fantastic. You can pay £300 for brighter lights but for commuting and training I think they're fine.0

i have the hope vision 1 and use it on unlit country roads, very happy with it .never had to use it on full setting yet! good luck in your search.0

what rechargebles are you using for your Hope Vision 1's?
I was looking at these Ansmann
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ansmann-5035092-2850mAh-Rechargable-Battery/dp/B000WDSFPM/ref=pd_ybh_6?pf_rd_p=138755991&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=ybh&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=004WDP9BABA3ZRBAJHKA
or would these Uniross just be as good?

I use the uniross batteries, had a year out of them with no problems.0 -
I'm amazed a light like this is sufficient for unlit cycling, or am I missing something? Any pic I've seen of it looks like a tiny led.0
-
I also use the uniross ones you link to above - have had them for a year - the Hope1 is a very good light for the money.
I use it on the bars and suspect it might be a bit heavy for a helmet mount to be honest..
it is very good though - like a motorbike headlamp on unlit roads. I got mine for £68 from ribble last year and can't fault it really.
(It does need the 2700Mah batteries though - The review in cycling plus this month is very misleading imo)0 -
I got one, it's too heavy for the helmet and bear in mind when the batteries run out it switches off. You can switch it back on on the lowest setting, I think, but changing batteries on the go would be very awkward without another battery holder which you can get off hope for a few quid or elsewhere for a few pence. Hybrio batteries are good as they hold their charge better when not in use.Smarter than the average bear.0

Aye, another Uniross user, though the Ansmann would probably be better still (get a smart charger to go with them).
Yep, the C+ review was awful. Tested it with normal batteries, and, oddly, it then appeared to be the most "light producing" light of the battery operated ones.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I have had one for last 2 years, great light, have a few sets of the Uniross 2700Mah batteries that I alternate and they work a treat lasting about 3 hrs on max setting.
I use mine helmet mounted with a Vision 4 LED on the bars. With the helmet mount it does sit quite high, at first I did find it a tad heavy for helmet use but if you get it in a position where its well balanced and do your helmet straps up tight it doesn't bob about too much and your neck muscles adjust after a week or so of use and you don't notice it.
I find it works well for me as a helmet light as the beam pattern is quite a tight/spot with a long throw, and having a light that moves and looks where your head is moving is a great addition to a more flood-like beam on the bars.
Only problem I've ever had with it is the plastic battery holder that goes inside, with extended use my one cracked at various places at the contact points i think because rechargeable batteries are slighter larger than disposables. The increased stress on the holder took its toll eventually, wasn't too much of a problem quick e-mail to Hope explaining what had happened to the part and asking if they sold spares and they sent me a new holder for free. Their cust service is great, they are currently replacing one of my batteries for the Vision 4 led that has developed a loose connection.
So I recommended the Vision 1 very highly!I LOVE THE SMELL OF GT85 IN THE MORNING!0 -

Uniross batteries. All last winter and still going strong so far this year. Gives me 3 hours on High on the Vision 1.0 -

i have a Hope 1 which is very good. The cycling mag tests are always false! they need to seperate the results! ie marks for
light output/beam
battery life
quality
That way you will get a better idea of what light will suit you!
I also have a magicshine light which to be honest is far better than the Hope 1 and can be had for alot cheaper! If you get the right one you get a much better mah battery which will last 3hrs instead of 2.5hrs of most other magicshine lights! the low setting on mine is brighter and has a bigger beam. Saying that though the Hope 1 is very good but not as good as the magicshine lights.0 -

I've got both the Hope LED 1 and Magicshine. As mentioned the Magicshine is brighter, but the Hope is better quality, is self contained and easy to carry a spare set of batteries for.
Ideal for the road bike, not ideal for off road MTB as the beam spread is more focused. I wouldn't recommend it for helmet mounting as it does feel quite heavy on the head.

Now, I don't know if they've updated the design in the last couple of years, but mine was sh1te. Good looks, good construction, lousy light. Tried any number of batteries to get a better output but frankly it was only good enough for a backup to a decent helmet-mounted light IMO. For that money, you'd be much better off with a Magicshine, if you want a bright light rather than a nice-looking one...
Oh...and helmet-mounted? Only if you've got a neck the width of Chris Hoy's thighs0 -
I tested mine last night in an unlit tree-lined passage and it was great, it would be perfect on country lanes. I won't be riding at night though because there was a headless horseman chasing after me trying to decapitate me. It was terrifying. How can anyone ride off-road, alone, at night?Smarter than the average bear.0
