Was going to buy a red chain today just for a bit bling and banter! But does the colour last or is it black and silver before the end of the week!?

    Depends.

I've seen some painted ones on those cheap SS road 'rockets' that will just disappear with spit.

But tbh even the gold ones wear eventually on the outer plates - just look at an old power link, certainly not as gold as it once was...

Silver with a bit of gold is the way forward

Look at this - shimano put the gold on the inner plates where it's less liely to wear

  • IMHO coloured chains are for single speeds and BMXs. Think of the shifting process, the front mech will simply rub the paint off.

Meh, I'd go through chains too much to make it worth it.

Still, if you do go for them, clean after every ride, lube up properly with the correct chain lube, and avoid riding through crud.

In that case do it. I put a white chain on my lads Pitcrew, along with some white V8 copies and white grips. Nice cheap bit of bling.
