I was looking into getting a Raleigh Dynatech from the late 80's early 90's with one of those bonded titanium tubes with cromoly lugs jobbies and wondered wanted something similar to my previous bike from the same era lovely claud butler with full shimano 600 groupset on it but I cn't remeber the model but anyway I was just looking for something similar now the insurance company has blessed me with £300 and just looking for something a bit different a bit retro.

However much of the £300 you spend on the bike, leave some money left over for some full stops!

Weren't some of them only about £550 new? But generally no, unless about £50 as they were one of the most flexy bikes ever made, you could almost change front chainrings by stamping on the pedals. Oh they weren't very light either as most had steel rear triangles.

£300 ain't much in the modern world world but I'm sure you can do much better with a 2nd hand offering from Giant, Trek etc.

I expect you should be able to pick-up a frame in good condition for £100-120. There were different specs of frames - make sure you go for the higher ones. They weren't that light not that stiff, using Commercially Pure ti tubes rather than the stiffer alloys.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Didnt the frames start to fall to bits?

Sold my Dyna Tech 725i for £75 three months ago, it had shimano 105, mavic wheels and itm finishing kit but it was a non runner. It was in good condition for the age with all original paint and decals, but after 18 years of winter abuse.. too much started to fail, but the 105 sti worked fine and never missed a beat in the 18yrs. I think that i bought it in 92 for around £800.
  • It was just my winter bike got stolen ie the claud butler I already have an 08 dawes galaxy which is reserved for summer months and through winter is shut away from the elements in a slightly heated garage. I am just looking for something again a bit different as I know I could probably get a used giant tcr with sora 3300 or perhaps tiagra 4400 but I just wanted something a bit different, but to be honest that was written after I had been slightly exposed to a pub and as such wasn't thinking straight as now I've thought of it I don't want to be suddenly riding a unicycle whilst cycling down a main road so I probably think a use giant tcr or something would be a better buy in the first place.
