Mud X is an unbeatable all round winter tyre IMO, light tyres seem somewhat pointless in winter, although the Dirty Dan looks very similar.
I was looking at Maxxis Ignitor,
And I also have a set over Racing Ralphs,
I also like the look of the WTB Exiwolf,
... but then that could be because I want to dread my hair and grow a beard ala Jeff Jones
Cheers,

Wouldn't really call any of them winter tyres, Nics at a push, but Ralphs won't be that much fun!0

I'll take your advice and try Nobby Nics, like I said it's been a while since I paid too much attention to MTB stuff and it's changed a whole lot since then. Threadless headsets, who'd thunk it ?0

I too would use these (26" one's of course) if I was coming back home in the winter.
Schwalbe Nobby Nic Tire 29 x 2.25 "Evolution Snake Skin. Lot of grip and low rolling resistance and good puncture protection.
Maybe even try Continental Mountain King Tire 29 x 2.2 . Heard good things but I haven't try these before myself.
Cheers for the nice comment Si. No worries, glad to help you out

Is that one of the Schmolke top caps? I tried to get one of those out of them years ago, but they were so rubbish at responding I gave up!
It depends on your local riding, Nics will be fine if it's largely rocky, but frankly they're still not a mud tyre, the Dirty Dan looks like it'd be better for that, although I don't know if they come in clown size.0 -

Tell me about Schmolke, 14 weeks and still waiting for a seat post !!!
Will also take advice on tyres, not too rocky where I am (south coast), more muddy that rocky.
Cheers again guys,

Very stylish even though it's a lefty
Great photos too.0 -
Amazing quality pictures, amazing bike, just amazing is the only word possible. I want that bike!0

The TLO post should be worth the weight at least. How do you find the bars? We built a bike using them and the sweep was really odd, very marked but only the last 1/4 of the bar. Not a shape I could get on with.0

smart bike looking bike, can you make a lefty with a linskey pro 26 frame.0

I've only covered 20 miles so far, big day planned tomorrow so should be able to comment further after then.
First impressions seems to be ok, I'm often leaning on the bar ends when I'm just cruising along or climbing so it would be unfair to comment otherwise. They have a 6 degree sweep and seem ok is all I can say at the moment.terryowen wrote:smart bike looking bike, can you make a lefty with a linskey pro 26 frame.
That was what I was originally going to go for, speak to Mike at Lynskey, they have done a few for custom customers, he sent me some pics early on before i decided on the 29 inch which was being sold in the Lynskey Loft with the Lefty fork.
The lefty fork will work, although mine is the 80mm travel 29'er version, the ordinary 110mm version is identical except for a spacer inside.0 -
You can get converters to run a lefty in any frame now too.0

I didn't have problem with the sweep. Saying that I do have it turn up a bit and the decals are almost looking down. The only problem with Schmolke was the build. Poor quality control. Plus their weight can vary alot. Only got better the last year or so. Also they having a bad year with supply and demand which I sure Simon knows
They have bought out the new Riser this year. I have one on the way. Thanks Stefan
BTW Si what Lefty fork to you have? Is the travel not 110mm?Vodka anyone? "Honk"

Travel on my one is 80mm I think, exactly the same as the 110mm version, just a with a spacer in restrict the amount of movement.
I'm sure the Schmolke seat post will be worth the wait, the bars look amazing and nice that Poshbikes were able to put the white decals on it too, which they are doing with the seat post as well. Still, quite a wait !!!0 -

Agree the white decals is so much better!! Plus you are lucky that Poshbikes got them for you. Hard to come by.

Yep, Clood is the dude.
Just back from a 30 mile loop from Andover to Winchester and back, tired legs full of only good things to say about the bike.
Stopped for tea and cake half way with a couple of pints of ale at the finish.
2X10 rules, It just makes so much more sense small chainring for very steep climbs, big chainring for everything else. I have actually started to enjoy climbs again, only on the last one which was an 18% monster for 1/2 mile did I find my legs shaking !!!
Freds held out better than expected, probably will get some tyres with a bit more bite for the next run.
Cheers,
Si :-)0 -
I cant believe no one has said "Nice use of a Sofa" :?:

Ha ha, the sofa makes a great bike rack !!!
The Lefty works really nice, very smooth and plush, you just kind of forget about it.
With my last bike I used to lock off the front fork most of the time unless it was particularly bumpy because the slightest dab of the brakes would have it diving for the ground. It could have been poorly set up I know but this one I only lock out on the road and during big climbs, you just forget that it's there.ianpinder wrote:Very narrow bars, do you race, nice bike though, I nearly bought one, but went for a ibis tranny
I don'd the bars too narrow, my last bike the bars were 640mm wide so it's less than an inch in either side.
I don't race but I'm hoping to do a few of the Southern XC races to see how I fair. I will most probably enter some of them after x-mas whenI've dropped a few pounds and gotten a bit fitter.
Cheers,

The Southern XCs run April-ish to September anyway, so you've got a while. There's a series of Spring Gorricks that'll start in February. I'd advise some knobblier tyres for a wet Gorrick!0
