I managed to roll myself out of bed early today and completed my 1st commute to and from work, so pleased with myself :D I felt great all day and it only took me 15 minutes longer than it does in the car, plus I got to whizz past all the people stuck in the traffic jams due roadworks! Roll on friday to do it all again

Weren't you hoping to be 15 minutes quicker

I'm loving the commuting by bike. I get an extra 20 minutes in bed! On the flip slide, it did take 10 minutes for my feet to warm back up!

Well done, so long as you keep it up you'll get fitter, slimmer and faster and you can save money if you don't spend it all on kit and upgrades.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

think of the price of new car tyres, though, it makes everything feel better knowing the bike tyres are a hell of a lot cheaper.

You will, Grasshopper, you will.

Welcome to the joy of commuting.

Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase tyres are inexpensive, tough and last ages. A good jacket can be used off the bike and should last longer than the tank or two of petrol it might cost. IME a thin shell with one or two baselayers underneath is better than one thicker jacket with poor ventilation.

You could see the money spent as an investment in yourself. By riding to work you are improving your life expectancy, your happiness and mental wellbeing as well as your alertness once at work.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

When it gets chilly I wear a softshell over a base layer, if I get cold I'm not pedaling hard enough!

    Well done, keep it up!

Welcome to the hardcore elite that are cycle commuters. well done pal.
  • Canary Wharf in London - anyone know of any good routes to get down there? Need to get down for a meeting tomorrow and never ridden that way. I presume there is some kind of dedicated cycle lane.
